Kankuro still trembled from his near brush with death. He had been on
the receiving end of Gaara's wrath before, but never so severe. He could
still feel the sand pressing in around him, even as he watched it retreat
into his brother's gourd. The younger sand-nin walked out of the room once
again in his mood of severe calm, and uttered to his brother, "The next
time you decide to backtalk me, Kankuro, I wont be so kind." And he
disappeared into the halls of the bunker.
A soft thud pulled Kankuro out of his daze. He'd forgotten that the blonde girl had stepped in and tried to stop the sand-wielding maniac, and got caught in one of his attacks. Ino was still quite unconscious when Kankuro approached her. Much to his relief, he found his crazed brother had not ended the girl's life for interrupting.
Lifting her limp body form the floor, he moved her to the bed. It was his only place to sleep that night, and he did not know how long she would be out. But giving up his bed for the time being was the least of his worries. As he released her, he let his hands trail over her, gently. One over her knee, the other over her shoulder. Her vicious temper seemed only an illusion, as she lay there drawing in gentle breath through slightly parted lips.
Grains of sand still clung to her skin and settled in the folds of her clothes. He brushed away those that soiled her pale cheek, letting his fingers linger there. Living in the family situation he had, he was not allowed much time around girls. If any did come close, they inevitably ran away, for fear of his younger brother. But Ino had not. She knew what the boy was fully capable of, she'd witnessed his power in the exams. And yet, she stood up to him. Even though Kankuro knew how much she detested him and his brother, he couldn't quell what he felt stirring inside him.
He brushed his thumb over her lips, clearing them of the tan grains. He leaned forward, lowering to his knees beside the bed. Placing a gloved hand under her head, he pressed his lips to hers. An kiss stolen innocently from a sleeping girl.
She kissed back, moving an arm around him.
He panicked and tried to pull away from her, planting both hands on the bed.
"Don't run away, Kiba," she muttered in a sleep filled tone. "You always know the best way to--" Her eyes drifted open. She looked confused at first, as if trying to decided if what she was seeing was read.
Kankuro didn't have a chance to explain himself. He found himself half way across the room, his cheek stinging in the distinct imprint of a hand.
"I do NOT believe this!" She screeched. "I'm out for a minute after an attempt to save your ASS and you...YOU...ARUGH!"
He knew explaining himself was not an answer. "You thought I was that damn mutt! I knew--"
Before he could finish, he was left with a pair of hand prints, one on each side of his face. Ino stormed out, wordlessly grumbling.
