The trees were bare and the sky was dark, a perfect view of night life that I lived. When I was little I was dropped off at the Scientific Care Vicinity in Fort Worth, Texas. Ever since I was little, I would sneak out of my room, through the window and sit on a ledge on the roof and look out into the night. The fall, crisp air blowing through my hair, I felt so free; oh, how was I naive, so very naive. I was a creature of the night, the doctors ran tests on me daily. There was, literally, nobody like me.. that I knew of. Hello, my name is Danielle X, I don't have a real last name. Davie was my doctor, he was kind of like a dad. He tucked me in, said good night to me and made sure I was safe. He is a real great guy. This is my story, the story of a girl, a very unique and misunderstood girl. I was unnatural, could read minds. Not like, oh, I know what they are thinking, but I see into the future too. I can also put thoughts into peoples minds. I know it isn't anything special like flying, like in my favorite books Maximum Ride, but the stories match up pretty well.

My mom left me here in a box when I was little, but it wasn't because she didn't love me. Davie has told me this story many times to make sure I knew I was loved. My mom got paid a lot of money when I was conceived to let this facility to a bunch of tests on me. She didn't know what the worst was that could have happened, well, once they learned what they did to me, they paid her even more to let them keep me, she cried and said no but they threatened her and she gave in. Davie, as it turns out, is my real dad. Like birth parent, biologically. I only know this because I asked him for the truth about my dad and I didn't believe him. We did a DNA sample and it matched. Perfectly. I was thrilled, but I still wish I could see my mom at least once for some memory of her. I got a hold of a phone book once and I found the name Sheila Galley. Davie would not let me use her last name or tell me his, some identity secret of his, so I am stuck with X. I wrote down the number into a journal and memorized it if I ever got caught. (772) 555-0196. It wasn't that hard to memorize but I still never got caught. All I had too do was find a phone.

It was almost Christmas and I asked Davie if I could have a cell phone. He looked at me curiously and said goodnight. I could see a smile trying to form on his lips. I wasn't quite sure though, maybe I was being paranoid. It was Christmas Eve and I am sitting here on the roof, is there a such thing as Santa Claus I wondered aloud. I knew every Christmas story, the birth of the Messiah in a manger, Saint Nick, Santa Claus, the Grinch, etc. I was eating breakfast and they were watching me extra carefully, I was confused but didn't show it... did I? They ran their normal tests, which I had gotten used too, and asked me questions which I answered mentally. Then I thought about it... when was my birthday? I asked them and Davie told them to get out. I was nervous. Davie sat me down and looked me in the eye.. I hate that look.

"Today is your birthday, hunny." "Why didn't you ever tell me, daddy?" I asked, surprised. He gulped and looked away, I knew he wasn't telling me something.
"We don't keep secrets from each other" I mocked. He told me that when I was little and we had just found out we were really related. He gulped again. I read his mind and found out information I didn't want to know and I tried to block it out but instead I said it out load which only made it real..
