MY THREE SONS

Rachel Starsky's POV

My name is Rachel Starsky and I am the proud mother of three sons. Not little boys anymore but grown men. Each one different and unique in their own way.

The eldest is my son, David Michael. My first born. The son that is the spitting image of his father. He looks so much like my husband, Michael, that sometimes it hurts just to look at him. He is like his father in so many ways. Stubborn to a fault with a quick temper but a gentle heart. Like his father, he is a policeman, a detective in California. I worry about him every day but I know that he is following his heart as he walks in his father's footsteps. He is honest, loyal and faithful but he shields his heart to keep from being hurt.

Then there is my second son, Nicholas Marvin. He is the complete opposite of his brother. They may bear a family resemblance to one another but they have completely different personalities and natures. As much as I hate to admit it, I am to blame for the way Nicky has turned out. He is selfish, self centered, and lazy. I know because a mother knows what her son is, at least this mother does. I know that Nicky operates just this side of the law. He wants to make an easy buck without any more effort than necessary. I worry about him too but for totally different reasons than I do his older brother. Where David grew up independent and self reliant, Nicky grew up needy and childish. He would rather blame everyone else for his shortcomings than accept responsibility for his own actions.

And then there is my third son, not a son of my blood, but one of my heart. His name is Ken Hutchinson and he is my son's best friend and partner on the police force. He is the one who keeps my David safe and protects him every day. He is loyal, smart and committed to my son completely. I adopted him the day I met him. I could tell how much he meant to my David and so, he means a lot to me too. As long as he is at my David's side, I know that my son will be all right.

I am blessed with three sons. You should be as lucky as I am.
