Dream Your Wish
Shae knew the plan. Didn't like it, but she knew it. Linus stood behind her. It was her father's execution. The king was going on about Shae's father being a traitor, how it was the worst crime, saying he wasn't the king. Shae wanted to take her sword, Scar, and drive it so far into his head they'd have to bury him with it. She reached for her sword, but Linus stopped her.
"Not today little lordling." Linus said.
"Linus, I'm-"
"After this, you're an orphan boy. No one asks orphans too many questions, cause no one gives a shit. Now shut up and follow me, boy." Shae closed her eyes as he took her from the crowd. He took her to a cart and set her down.
"Your name is Shar. You are a boy. Your name is Shar. You are a boy. What is your name?"
"My name is Shar. I am a boy." Shae replied. Linus made the horses move. Once they left city limits, Linus told her they were heading north. Shae recalled stories about the north. Dragons, wizards, druids, and free thinkers.
-a month later-
Shae was no longer hungry. Nor was she thirsty, tired or sore. All those feelings left days ago. All she knew was the dark forest. Linus hadn't spoken since he told her they were going north. It was quiet, and Shae drifted once again into unconsciousness. In her dreams, she saw the king, the executioner. All of them. Linus had shielded her eyes, but she could still imagine it. Her dreams frightened her. As she came awake, a tall pinnacle towered over the trees. Shae knew she'd reached the north. The cart finally stopped, and Shae fell forward. Everything she hadn't felt hit her like a rock.
"How do you feel, Shar?" Linus asked, helping her up. Shae shook her head. An inn came to her attention.
-the next morning-
Shae woke in a strange place. The previous nights events ran through her mind. She nimbly got up and found breakfast waiting but Linus was gone. Shae felt her adventurous instincts take over. She began exploring the city with childlike wonder. Despite being 12. Her eyes locked on a banner when she bumped into something. She looked up at someone who looked really important.
"Do you know who I am?" She shook her head. The tall boy ran off furiously. Shae continued exploring, but soon realized she was lost. The market became confusing, and ran into a woman dawning a red cloak.
"I'm sorry" Shae stuttered. The woman smiled.
"There he is! The disrespectful bastard. Slit the boys throat." The blonde boy from earlier had brought help.
"You will do no such thing, Arthur." The woman snapped.
"And why is that?"
"Because this one's a girl." The woman replied. Arthur was furious, but left. The woman turned to Shae.
"My name is Morgana. Sorry about that."
"Shae Darcroft. I'm from north of the wall."
"North of the wall? Darcroft? You're a highborn." Morgana said. Shae nodded. Suddenly, a horseman strode into the city.
"Shae Darcroft. No one can protect you now. Your protector is dead!" He rode out, leaving Shae helpless. Morgana took Shae's hand and took her to the castle. She lead Shae into a chamber, which had a secret chamber in the closet.
"Sleep here. Shae, I'm going to protect you now. No one will hurt you." Morgana seemed to swear this. The door opened, and a dark haired boy stood, mouth ajar.
"Morgana! No more strays!" He said.
"Merlin, I had to. She needs me." Morgana plead.
"Why does she need you?" Merlin questioned.
"Her family's dead. She's alone. And someone wants her dead."
"We went through this with Mordred and he turned out evil." Merlin protested.
"There's a light in Shae. I can feel it Merlin." Morgana said. "Please trust me." Merlin sighed, defeated.
"Fine. But you're telling Arthur and Gaius." Morgana smiled.
