A/N So shaniatwains wrote a beautiful story about Wyatt and Lucy visiting Jessica's grave so Wyatt could introduce Lucy to Jessica. My brain at midnight took that and ran away to the demon plot bunnies that demanded a drabble be written. I complied and this is what happened. For those of you reading Fate Knows Best never fear. A new chapter will be out in the next couple of days.
It was a bright spring morning. The were new buds on the trees and the grass was turning greener every day. Lucy relished the crispiness in the air even as the sun warmed her back. She no longer enjoyed winter for it was too painful on her old bones. She carried a bouquet of colorful flowers in her age spotted hands as she made her way to get destination, a gravestone in the middle of a west Texas cemetery. It was black and just as cold as the wind that ruffled her gray hair. The word carved into its surface still made her heart ache a little.
"I hope you like these," she said to the black stone. "It's your birthday, and everyone deserves flowers on their birthday. They're just wild flowers, but I think they're beautiful and I thought you would like them too.
'It's beginning to feel like spring here and my knees are telling me it's going to rain. I know that's supposed to just be an old wives' tale, but it's true. Anyway, you may be getting a spring shower soon. Be glad you never got old. It's not all it's cracked up to be. But I promise I will keep bringing you flowers until this old body gives out. It's the least I can do."
Lucy bent at her waist to lay the bouquet against the tombstone. She straightened to her full height and stood looking down at the name carved so long ago. She felt a pang of sadness that she was the one standing there. She never thought she would end up here.
She smiled at the stone and said, "Happy birthday Jessica. Tell Wyatt I said hello."
With a glance to the grave next to Jessica's Lucy turned and walked away.
A/N Yes, that's the end. No, I really have no idea what happened to lead up to these events, and honestly I have no desire to find out. It might be too sad. But I think Lucy is kind-hearted enough that she would bring flowers to Jessica's grave if Wyatt was no longer around to do so, especially if she thought it was her fault he died.
