Goodbye, My Love

One-shot

Viktor's POV

I watched from a short distance as Hermione laughed and smiled with her friends, Harry and Ron. There was another boy there, too, though I never quite caught his name during my year here. He was tall and had dark wavy hair and was holding a toad…

My stomach was in knots and my heart pounded with pain against my chest, this was to be the hardest moments in my life.

Leaving her…

When I first came to Scotland to attend Hogwarts for the year I had no idea what to expect. Make friends, enemies, sign a few autographs and dodge a few over-jubilant girls and cameras. But this… falling in love… it was the last thing I ever expected to do. And honestly, the last thing I wanted to do, too.

But as I stood leaning against the thick iron post, I couldn't tear my eyes away from her; Hermione. She was smart, funny, understanding, personable, caring, open-minded… and beautiful. Her skin was pale and matched her honey-brown eyes and brunette waves perfectly, she was flawless.

And I loved her.

Neville. That is what she called the boy as he walked away from them. Now I knew.

I pulled myself off of the post I was leaning on as she looked over at me, a great big smile on her face and an unmistakable twinkle in her eyes. But as she walked over to me, her smile faded, and her eyes became dull and hollow.

"It is time for me to go now." I told her as the knot in my gut exploded against my heart with unbearable pain.

"I know." She said sadly as she looked down to the stone ground.

"I have," I choked out, "I have vritten my address, so you can vrite me." I told her as I took her hand in mine and handed her a small piece of parchment with my said address on it.

"Will I…" She asked softly as she clenched the parchment softly in her hand, "Will I see you again?"

I extended my hand forward to grab her free hand, "If you attend some of my games I vill be mo-"

"No." She cut me off, "I mean, will I see you… when you aren't in a match. See you just to… see you…" She trailed off.

At her words my heart beat bullets against my chest, "I vould, only do that, if you vanted." I told her.

She looked up at me as a single tear fell quickly down her cheek, and then before I could even register what was happening she jumped at me and flew her arms around me and sobbed against my chest.

"Hermione," I whispered, "Hermione, vhat is vrong?" I asked her as I wrapped my arms around her and rubbed her back.

"Viktor I don't want to see you go." She cried, "I love you!" She told me.

"You-" I began but was cut off a she pulled her head away from my chest to look up at me with tear-stained cheeks and red eyes.

"I love you, Viktor." She told me again, "And I understand that you do not feel the same way back, but I just couldn't let you leave without me telling you that first." She said softly as another tear ran down her pure cheek.

"Since the moment I first danced with you." I told her with a small smile.

"What?" She asked me, confused, with her eyebrows drawn together.

"That is vhen I first loved you." I told her, "I love you, Hermione Granger."

"You… you love me?" Her voice squeaked.

"Yes," I whispered, "Very much." I then took her chin in my hand, and I kissed her.

And two weeks later, once school was out and she was back home with her family, I went to her house, and we saw each other again.

And we would continue seeing each other until the day I would ask her to become my wife.
