Who, Me?
It was a dreary Sunday afternoon and rain was falling on my head and running through my hair and into my eyes as I walked steadily uphill towards home. I stopped and looked to my left, into the front yard of the house I was passing, as I heard a noise. It sounded like a distant siren at first but as it grew louder I recognised the distinctive sound of the TARDIS materializing. I jumped the fence as fast as I could and there, stepping out of the doorway, in his brown coat, his hair puffed up at the front, was the doctor. Regeneration number ten.
I paused, as I had only recently seen him on TV regenerating, and wondered at what point along his personal timeline this was. Then out stepped Rose. Rose. This was Ten in his early days. I smiled and started forwards.
"Stop!" cried ten. I noticed then that he was holding some sort of gadget in his hand and it was blinking rapidly as it was swing in my direction. "You're a holomorph," Ten said, sounding smug as he stared straight at me.
"What?" I asked, confused at what he had just called me.
"Oh, come off it," he said, shaking his head slightly, "I know you're a holomorph. Look, just give up and this needn't be difficult for either of us." AS he said this, he reached inside his jacket pocket and withdrew a thin metal pen-like device.
"Your sonic!" I exclaimed, "Brilliant!"
He paused, confused, and Rose piped up "um, Doctor? I don't think he's the holomorph."
"Why's that?" he asked.
"Because," she replied, "that tree just stepped towards us."
I was knocked aside as the tree I was standing next to dove towards the doctor. It knocked the Doctor to the ground and the sonic screwdriver flew from his hand. "Don't worry Doctor," cried Rose, "I'll stop it." She grabbed an axe from the woodpile, taking a moment to heft it and size up the tree, and with a feral yowl, swung it at the tree. The axe hit the tree with a surprisingly metallic clang and it jerked upright, still clinging to the Doctor by his shirt, and it's form blurred for a moment. Behind the outer image of the tree was a swirling mass of liquid metal.
"Oh thanks, Rose. That helped a bunch," said the Doctor sarcastically, now how about trying the sonic?" I was on my feet at this point and I saw the sonic not two metres from where I stood. I leapt towards it and snatched it up.
"Oi, Holowhatsit," I yelled. It turned towards me and screeched. I pointed the sonic at the tree-thing, "Time to face the music," I said and pressed the sonic. The holomorph dropped the Doctor and flickered for a moment then dropped it's tree image altogether. After another second or to it shook violently and then shrank to the size of a ball-bearing and fell to the ground, motionless.
"Fat lot of good you were," said Ten to Rose, "and you," he said turning to me, "How'd you know to do that?" he asked.
"Just intuiton." I replied, shrugging.
