Exactly What I Want
"So I guess this is where you say 'I told you so' right?" Robin assumed looking at the younger Dr.
"It's not something I wanted to be right about." Matt assured her
"How could he do this to me? To Emma?" She demanded
"Because he's a bastard. He may be my brother by blood but you and Emma are my family." Dr. Hunter explained as they sat in his apartment
"You continue to surprise me Matt. I kind of thought that…" The HIV survivor stopped midsentence
"Thought what?" He prompted
"That you would defend him." Dr. Scorpio muttered
"Maybe I care too much about you and Emma to defend anyone else. Robin you know I love Emma right?" Noah's youngest questioned
"Of course I do." She replied shocked that he would have to ask
"Then I guess you know that I love you too right?" Dr. Hunter guessed
"I love you too Matt." The older of the two responded
"Not the way I love you Robin. I mean that I am in love with you. Which I know is completely and utterly wrong. I know that you're married…married to my brother but that doesn't matter. I love you and I know that it's not fair to tell you that right now. But I wanted you to know before you accepted my help with Emma and you after the divorce." He confessed not breaking eye contact with the woman sitting beside him on the couch
"I don't know what to say." She admitted after a few minutes
"You don't have to say anything. I'm gonna go for a walk. That way you can think, and it gives you ample time to leave if you want." The youngest of the duo said with a smile as he walked out the door
Robin looked down at her left hand and became ill at the sight of the ring she wore. Their divorce was in the works but she was still wearing his ring. Her life had been falling apart until Matt rode in on his white horse to save her. She had wanted that all along, for a man to be able to save her from herself. In a way she thought it would be nice to have Jason but he and Brenda were a match made in Heaven and they were in the past. It was time to look toward the future and Matt had one planned out. One that included raising Emma together. He was willing to give up the only family he had in Patrick just to stand by her, willing to raise his niece as his own, willing to damn the consequences of being with his brother's ex-wife. He loved her. A man loved her and her child without expecting anything in return. Analyzing why it was wrong was so easy but what about how it was right? What about how he ran to the store at 4 in the morning for diapers or after working a double shift played with Emma after he came home for hours? Robin realized that they had been a family for months and that she had loved him for just as long.
"I thought you'd be gone." Matt said in disbelief entering the apartment with 2 coffees and a stuffed animal
"Then what's with the extra coffee and the stuffed bear?" Dr. Scorpio questioned
"Wishful thinking I suppose." He answered reaching her the coffee as he sat down beside her in the same place he was earlier
"Speaking of thinking I did a lot of it while you were gone. I tried to think of ways why this was a bad idea and would only end in heartbreak. But the truth is all I found was reasons to stay. Matt this shouldn't happen but I don't care. I love you and that's all that matters to me." Robin revealed sitting down her coffee and taking his from his hands to hold them
"You have no idea how happy I am to hear you say that." Dr. Hunter smiled leaning down to kiss her only to be interrupted by the baby monitor
"I guess you better get use to that." She laughed
"Trust me this is exactly what I want." Matt assured her giving her a peck on the lips before going to get her..their daughter
