He couldn't understand why it was happening to him. He didn't understand how it had happened to him. He had always been so careful to avoid people but somehow, she had managed to get underneath his skin and break his barriers.

Looking back, he wasn't even sure why it had such an effect on him. There hadn't been anything special about her. Just the fact that she was the most beautiful woman he had ever seen. He had been so stunned by her soft features and inquisitive eyes that he found his heart slowly melting. It had scared him.

"Hey Cloud, are you listening to me?" a teasing voice demanded, snapping him from his slight daze. He blinked up into sparkling emerald eyes.

"Aeris?" he said in confusion, wondering how she had gotten there. She rolled her eyes but her smile remained.

"So you weren't listening!" she stated victoriously and Cloud couldn't help but shake his head, a small smile tugging at his lips. Aeris didn't notice and instead continued speaking. "I swear sometimes your head is just in some distant land Cloud," she teased, giggling softly. Cloud smirked.

"Yeah, I know."

"Anyway," she continued. "I think it would be better if we had a kitty set aside for group items instead of everyone getting their own. Some group members may have collected more gil than others so if we all contribute a certain amount, it would be a little easier on the others right?"

Cloud blinked. "Uh…sure?" he replied, shrugging a bit. Aeris shook her head.

"Men," she muttered cheerfully. "Well I'll see you in the morning," she yawned, smiling at him again before disappearing out of the room. Cloud watched her leave, giving a small sigh.

He had always kept his distance with people but maybe, with Aeris, it was safe to get a little closer.
