I do not own The World Ends With You, Square Enix does!
Written for Twelve Shots of Summer: Quarter Queller - Week 9…
What did he want to be...? Ayumu didn't know.
It was funny, how for a long time of listening to the aspirations of many of his peers... he didn't know. Yet, he should have known, seeing as he was blind. There was little to none that blind people could do in the world to support themselves... in fact, almost the whole time they couldn't. It was hard enough as it was, trying to accept the fact he was crippled and wouldn't be able to find employment during his life. Despite his psychic powers aiding him... to the government, he was blind. They didn't care if he could do more for himself like his mother could; official documentation proclaimed he was blind, and that was that…
As a child, Ayumu would babble about all the things he might be able to do when he was older, thinking little of the fact he couldn't do any of those things... Ayumu understood his mother had known that perfectly well, and he should have long expected it before she was helping him get registered for disability support benefits. He couldn't help but hate the fact that there was nothing for him to do but let the government make sure he was getting enough to live on.
His hobbies offered no aid to his future as well; his Tin Pin Slammer passion wasn't quite career material... nor was listening to music boxes. He was interested with a lot of things, but the problem he held was the fact that he couldn't quite put himself into practicing with them due to his disability. So Ayumu wondered if he was born without a purpose; meant to slowly drift through life until he happened upon death. Ayumu found that to be unlikely; he had to have been born to do something. But as time went on, he could only helplessly feel that he was merely standing around and living off oxygen without lifting his weight for it.
For some days, Ayumu felt he could only fiddle with his thumbs, hoping for a sign that he wouldn't live the rest of his life like this. He wanted more than just living his life, he didn't want to accept the fact his blindness would turn away possibilities offered to him. If only there was something, anything that could grant him the opportunity to be something… then he would take it.
He wanted to be something more than just a blind psychic.

EeveeGen9989: Well, it looks to be that I'm three quarters of the way through this writing challenge. Man… time sure does fly, doesn't it? =3
As much as I had hoped to do a longer piece for this week, I sadly had only a day to write this and a day (today) to edit… Although, I hope with next week's prompts that I will come up with something longer, as well as the fact that I'll be taking a vacation and will be able to focus more on writing than these past few months! Maybe I'll be able to sneak in a chapter or two (or one of each) for TWEWY UF or TWEWY AFIH! But we'll see, people, we'll see... =D
