A/N: Hello! This is a oneshot with a definite Reyna/Jason bias, so Jasper (?) fans beware. Rated T for possible character death. Also, Shatter is the companion piece to Fractum Somnium, the Latin translation of this fic. Enjoy, and please remember to review!
Shatter
In the dream, he and Reyna were standing in a clearing of the forest. They were talking, but Jason couldn't hear the words, or even her voice. Something told him that he had loved her voice best.
So many of his memories were broken. He could only remember certain parts of his life. Snippets of dialogue, bits and pieces of faces, blurred images of places and things that he knew he should recognize, but … couldn't. It was frustrating beyond belief.
She was smiling. Jason remembered her smile. It transformed her face—usually very serious—into the picture of joy. Only the top row of teeth showed, and the right side of her mouth pulled up more than the left. He loved her smile. The rest of her face was not visible, blurred enough that he could only see that she had tan skin.
He, witnessing the dream from far away, noticed something on the edge of his vision moving that the Jason in the dream did not notice. A person, with a sword drawn. The person moved closer, and as they brought the sword down to Jason's back, Reyna pushed him out of the way—
And then there was blood, so much blood that the entire dream was red, and then Jason was kneeling next to Reyna's body. He held his gold sword in his hands, and the killer was dead on the ground. But Jason only cared about Reyna, because she couldn't be dying, she was Reyna—
The image shattered, and Jason woke up in a cold sweat. His hands shook as he ran them through his brutally short hair. He tried to remember when or where this had happened. A massive headache formed, but he ignored it, trying desperately to recall if Reyna had lived.
For weeks, the thought of going home to find a girl waiting for him, like Annabeth was for Percy, had haunted him. He wasn't sure if he was more scared or excited. From the strong connection he felt even from hearing the name, he knew that he had loved Reyna. But if Reyna was dead— Strong, inexplicable grief coursed through him. Grief for a girl he couldn't remember.
And, as much as he hated to admit it, there was relief mixed in with the grief, too. A small part of him was happy not to have to break Reyna's heart when he came back on the ship with Piper. He hated himself for this happiness.
Reyna could not be dead, because he loved her. He was coming home for her, fighting to return to her. If the person he was fighting for had already died…
No. Reyna could not be dead.
