You can't help it. She's endearing. She's witty and clever, and god knows you spend the majority of your time with her.
Her lack of self awareness refreshes you beyond words. To top that off, she's beautiful.
She doesn't know, of course; and you probably won't tell her for fear of ruining your friendship, but it's there nonetheless.
As if on cue, Barbara Havers pops into your office and says with a smile:
"Fancy a drink, sir?" Her teeth show, her eyes sparkle. You couldn't refuse her if you tried.
Oh yes, my dear boy; you are completely beyond help.
