A New Breed

Master Chief began running through the watery path of the area of Earth nicknamed "Crow's Nest". Spotting the Brute Chieftain perched on the cliff; he quickly unloaded a clip of Assault Rifle ammunition into the beast's hide. As the Brute's Power Armor disintegrated under the hail of bullets he saw a green streak fly past his head. Looking around the Chief saw the small group of Grunts and decided to dispatch them before finishing off their leader. Making quick game of the Grunts, he turned in time to see the Arbiter blow a hole through the Brute's skull with his Carbine.

Quickly scanning the area for more targets, he hears the strange whirring sound that can only mean one thing, Phantom. The Chief runs into a nearby building and crouches from the hail of plasma raining out of the Phantom's turrets. When the Phantom starts pulling away he sprints out to see how many reinforcements were brought to impede him and the Marines. Only two brutes and five or six Grunts, not bad compared to what Master Chief expected. A couple well placed grenades and a few short bursts from his Assault Rifle cleared the field of the Covenant reinforcements.

After seeing a small land bridge, the Chief charges once again into battle with the Brutes, Jackals, and Grunts that were awaiting him on the other side. He rushes ahead of the Arbiter and knocks a Brute's Power Armor off with the butt of his rifle. Rushing through the mass of flying plasma bolts, the Chief mows down the relatively unprotected Grunts with little difficulty. Surveying the carnage he decides to run through the cave to his right and into yet another battle.

Ruins of planet Reach

James was alone and hungry in the desolate wasteland that was what remained of his home world. Quickly losing the will to live, he continues to look for food on this Hell that has overcome his home. Suddenly he sees something bright falling from the sky. "Oh What now, haven't I been through ENOUGH ALREADY!!" James exclaims at the sky in an almost delirious state.

The Meteorite slammed into the planet less than half a mile from James's location, and curious James decided to investigate. Upon arriving at the crash site James noticed something odd, the meteorite seemed to be metallic in nature and yet had what appeared to be grass on the top side of it. His interest fully evoked now, he climbed a nearby cliff to hop onto the odd structure. He began to search around when he found a deep, tunnel-like cave that appeared to be man-made. Upon entering the cave he saw and odd jellyfish-like creature crawling toward him.

James thought that anything alive was better than whatever he found on these remains and made a motion toward it. Before he knew what was happening the flood infection form had jumped on him and latched itself onto his right shoulder. In a panic James rushed to pull the odd creature off of himself and felt it pop between his hands, but not before a spike-like protrusion embedded itself into his flesh. Crying out in pain, he grabbed the barb and ripped it out of his flesh, left to hope the jellyfish wasn't poisonous and that there weren't more around.

His veins felt as if they were on fire as the flood virus spread through his bloodstream, changing his DNA. Feeling himself falling backwards in pain, the last thing James heard was "At last, food!" then he passed out and knew no more until he awakened.
