She's not entirely sure that what she's doing is exactly the right thing to do, but it needs to be done. It needs to be done before a couple once thought to be a sham completely fell apart. She doesn't care if Chuck hates her for it- Blair is her best friend, she has every right to know. And if Blair doesn't believe her? She doesn't think she cares, really. At least it will be out there. At least she'll know, despite beliefs, that Chuck had said those three words, eight letters, that Blair had wanted to hear so badly.
It's not about her and Nate, never will be. She realizes this on her way to Blair's house. It's about her best friend getting what she wants. She laughs as she thinks about when Blair and Chuck first started; it all seems so funny now. The way no one believed anything would become of it was comical now.
The elevator is devastatingly slow; the weight of the truth crushes down on her until, finally, the elevator stops and the doors open. Dorota looks surprised at the late-night visit, shouldn't miss Serena be at home? She notes the look of, desperation? No, it's something else, something frantic, and instead tells Serena that she'll get miss Blair now.
Blair isn't pleased, couldn't have Serena waited until morning for this? Dorota tells her that it looks important. And so Blair panics. A million thoughts race through her head. Would this be another confession of death? Was she in trouble? Blair all but flew down the stairs to get to her friend, no, her best friend. Who needed her.
She finds Serena pacing, her golden hair messier than normal, but she still looks like a model. And damnit, Blair is jealous, but now is not the time for jealousy, and even a Queen B like herself knows that.
"Serena, what is it? Dorota said it was important." she grabs Serena lightly by the arm, putting an end to the pacing.
"I know you hate Chuck-"
"No, I don't care anymore, I have Nate. Wait, did you come here just to talk about Chuck? It's almost 3 in the morning, are you insane?" She looks at Serena, annoyance is evident, and waits for her response.
"Look, Blair… You chose Nate because Chuck gave you the wrong answer."
"There was no wrong answer. He told me it was a game, like everything else. He practically told me to be with Nate, what more is there to say?"
Serena was officially frustrated. Blair had never seen clearly when it came to Nate, probably never would. The same went for Chuck. Sure, he was good at fooling people, but Blair? She should have seen through this, should have know that he didn't want her to be with Nate, and not because it was a game.
"He loves you!" she finally all but yells.
"No, he doesn't! I don't understand why you came here to tell me this." Blair turns to go, but Serena stops her.
"You know the day he said that?" Serena pauses, looks down for a moment, and then continues, "Right after you left? I asked him why he would do that, why he would lie to you. He said he loves you, but that he can't make you happy."
"This isn't funny Serena! He hurt me, time and time again, and what, you think it's something to lie about?" Blair doesn't know why she said that, doesn't know why she would think Serena would lie about something like this. But her instinct kicks in and tells her that Chuck Bass could never actually love anyone but himself.
"I'm not asking you to believe me Blair. I just couldn't sit there and not tell you. You deserve to know the truth, even if you don't think it's possible. I don't care if you don't confront him about it or if you pretend I never told you, but you had to know." Serena gives a pleading glance at Blair and then turns to leave.
Things had gone exactly as she thought they would, but at least Blair knew.
