Warnings: mild slash warnings, with 100% chances of rain, watch out for sap and general fluffiness

Rating: PG for being slashed

Pairing: Aragorn/Legolas (yes, let us hop on the bandwagon... people say A/L is over done, but they really should be talking to those folks over in the gundam wing fandom, you know there are over 10,000 1x2 pairing fics alone?)

Author note: Today it rained the first REAL rain of the year... not that nasty drizzle that makes everyone depressed and gloomy, but it rained real rain as in thunder clapping and sheets pouring. It was a pleasant enough rain (if you were not driving in it, which I was for a little while). That is the inspiration behind this little vignette. Enjoy.

"Thunder only happens when it's raining
Players only love you when they're playing
They say women they will come and they will go
When the rain washes you clean you'll know..."

This is Why I Love The Rain
by Gillian/Gilly-bean

"Hurry! Into the hollow of that tree there!" the ranger called out over the deafening clap of thunder that rang through the tall forrest.

The elf at his side, however, had other ideas. "Come, dance in the rain with me, Estel," Legolas lilted, spinning around as the rain begain to pelt down in sheets. "Tis the first rain of tuilë!"*

Silly elf, thought the Man, but nevertheless he abandoned his alcove to join the Elven Prince. "You are a silly creature, you know that, Elf?" Aragorn commented, grabbing one of Legolas' wrists and spinning him around until their bodies pressed close together.

"Ah, but I cannot help it, my Lord," the elf said smiling, "For such rain brings joy and new life... should one not rejoice?"

Aragorn chuckled, lifting the prince to spin him as the rain beat down on them. "Aye, but you, of so many years, still find the simplest thing that which brings you the most joy... I am envious."

"Envious of the rain?" Legolas laughed, tilting his head back to let the deceptively warm droplets wash down his face and saturate his long flaxen hair.

"Aye, envious of the light it brings to your eyes," Aragorn told him seriously. "Of the way you glow, only for it."

The blond prince looked at the dark ranger, taking in the set face and warm grey eyes before smiling lovingly at the dark Man. "My light is only for you, for if it were not in your presence, this rain would only seem a normal and natural occurance... with you, it is a magical and surreal experience. You make the rain a curtain, enveloping us in its protection. That, meleth-nîn, brings me much joy."

Finding no fitting words with which to respond, Aragorn instead once again pressed their bodies close. Grey eyes lovingly locked with sea green and a soft smile graced weather beaten lips. "Then let us let the curtain shield us and enjoy our own little world for now," he whispered, lowering his lips to those of his beloved.

"This is why I love the rain..."
