" I am calling upon the Avatar, I heard he was in the city of ba-sing-se, please send him here immediately." The Earth King commanded kindly. Next to him stood a small girl; at the age of thirteen, she had become deaf. It was now two years from then. She stood head strong, her hands and feet were calloused, the signs of a well worked earth bender. The young woman was wearing heavy grey-green grey armor; It covered her chest to her hips, and split off into four separate panels stopping just above her knee caps as gold embroidering curled around decoratively. Loose tan pants were rolled just below her knees showing shin pads that were top hidden beneath the pants, and reached to the top of her feet. The color matched her main armor. She bore no sleeves, only elbow length dark blue-green hand protection. A matching obi hung at her waist. Her armor however left her back open and vulnerable.
Looking at her face, she held a look of strength and confusion. Her thin brows were knotted together, wondering what was going on; her yellow-green eyes held a certain sparkle of hope. Her hair was odd; dark reddish brown, her bangs hung low in her eyes; the top half of her head was thrown back in two loose buns, as identical strands of hair fell down in loops and clipped behind her head. The rest of her wavy hair met at her hips in a small bowed pony tail. Her brothers then stood up in the great news. Though the girl didn't know what was going on.
Her eldest brother looked her in the eyes and spoke with his hands. Her eyes grew wide in response, a goofy grin spread across her face. Her hands were in a flurry of movement and explanation only few could understand. Her eldest brother chuckled, turned to the king, and bowed deeply his sister and five other brothers in tow.
"Chiho says thank you, and so do we." He stated smiling in hope of his one and only sister.
"This is nothing my nephew, Akihiro; and all of you… Koji, Osamu, Takumi, Yoshinori, Daisuke, and my small niece-" He cut off and took her head in his hands.
"Chiho, a thousand ears of sand, why must your name be so true." He finished with a fatherly look in his eyes. He looked to Chiho's brother, and he gave him the universal 'wait' signal. No need for translation. She read his lips perfectly. She shrugged in response. It was just clearly ironic how her name and her condition corresponded so well. When she first started learning sand bending something had gone horribly wrong. She accidentally had also used earth bending to cause a mini earthquake, causing a dust storm. Sand had got lodged in both her ears making her deaf. She now had to count on her feet and eyes. Hopefully, the Avatar and his friends could come to help her, to become a better bender.
