Summary: Three times Spanner lost what was dear to him.
Spanner's Loss
His mother
That was the reason why he had to move away.
"A new start," his father promised. "A new beginning."
It was a new beginning indeed. He took his interest in robots to a whole new level. Robotics became a part of his life. He even entered the inter-school robotics competition, aiming to win.
That was when he met Irie Shoichi.
Mini Mosca
After he had become the Millifiore engineer, he set to building himself a companion, being rather lonely now that Shoichi, a White Spell captain, had no time to talk robotics.
He could have cried tears of joy when Mini Mosca looked at him and gave him a lollipop for the first time.
Then he could have cried again, as Mini Mosca was crushed by Iris right in front of him. Mini Mosca, whom he had brought to life, and died to save him.
He wanted to grab the remains and crawl back to his laboratory. He wanted to rebuild Mini Mosca and release all of his robots on Iris, Ginger Bread and all their minions. Crush them like they had crushed Mini Mosca.
The Vongola boy, though, had burnt them all to a crisp, and Spanner was glad that he had this friend.
Irie Shoichi
He hadn't realised.
He hadn't known how Shoichi was breaking down.
Piece by piece, bit by bit. The dorky robotics freak was being replaced by a stern, ruthless captain. A merciless fellow who had no qualms about killing him even though they had known each other since High School.
Spanner had really hated his best friend then. But seeing him double over in pain in front of the Vongola boss, he couldn't help but rush over to him and help him up.
All was forgiven there and then as they shared a smile.
However, in the room that they shared at night when they were working on the plans for the Vongola Famiglia, he thought he could hear Shoichi whimpering and his stomach growling.
He had never thought of how much his betrayal would hurt Shoichi.
It was only when Shoichi told him about what had been happening in his life that he realised how much his friend had changed. Byakuran had destroyed his friend mentally, physically and emotionally. He would never forget how Shoichi curled up like a lost child, crying and looking for comfort.
The dorky innocence that Shoichi once had, giving it out in an aura, was gone. Byakuran had made sure of that. He scared Shoichi so badly, played with his feelings and violated him over and over again.
Spanner knew that his best friend would never be the same again.
