Flowers

Monroe paused in his work, glancing towards the watch. He had one hour before he needed to make dinner. He would get this finished. He had plenty of time.

He dug a small hole with his fingertips, relishing in the scent of the freshly turned earth. It had rained not long ago, and the world smelled so fresh and crisp that it made him smile.

In the hole, he deposited a few small seeds, barely big enough for his fingers to grab ahold of. He brushed the dirt back over the top of the seeds and sprinkled them with a dusting of water.

He'd been out here, in front of his house, for two hours, just doing stuff like this. He'd clipped the bushes- by hand-, picked weeds, and planted new flowers. It was the perfect day for it; Earth day had never seen such a nice day to do all this planting.

Part of him was a little glad that Nick wasn't around; Monroe had had this tradition of doing something, anything, for Earth Day when it rolled around. Nick just didn't seem like the type of person who would understand how important Earth Day could be.

Or maybe Monroe was just an Earth nut one day a year. That was possible, too.

Either way, Monroe liked all of it. He picked up the seed packets, watering can, gloves, heading back into the house. Even if Nick called him out and laughed at him for being a tree-hugger, Monroe would always have one thing Nick didn't: fragrant flowers outside his window.

A Monroe Earth Day drabble! I could see him doing this. I hope you enjoyed the mental picture. Please review, as usual, and thanks for reading!
