MIDNIGHT RENDEVOUS

The Impala sat waiting, its midnight paint a-gleam in the gloom. A silent beacon to his battered body and tattered soul.
He crawled the last few yards, his fingers sinking into the earth. Gripping the handle of the back door, he pulled the door open wide before rising enough to maneuver inside. He sank into the cushions, steadfastly ignoring the blood, the mud, the monster muck and detritus covering his body. None of it mattered—none of it. Because he was home.
He yanked the door closed; shutting out the unwelcome sounds of the barbarous night and closed his eyes.
