Neji awoke suddenly in the middle of the night with the vague notion that something wasn't right. He rolled over to see if Ino had sensed it too, only to be faced with an expanse of empty bed. He sighed and rolled onto his back, now knowing what had woken him. He hated being left in bed alone.

Running a hand over his face, Neji flicked his eyes over to the clock only to raise an eyebrow to see that it was four in the morning. Ino was usually back in their bed by now. Neji felt a surge of jealousy to realize she must still be in the other room with the person she had left their room for.

It was ridiculous, he knew, to feel this way, but he couldn't help it.

He slipped out of bed and padded silently down the hall to the door of the room he knew she was in and bent his head close to listen. There was no sound coming from inside.

'She must have fallen asleep,' he thought as the jealous feeling beat against his ribs.

Taking a deep breath to steady himself, Neji slid the door quietly open to look at the scene within. It was almost enough to quell the monstrous feeling building inside of him.

Ino was indeed asleep, sitting up in the rocking chair with her head bent back and her mouth just slightly open. Her arms were holding the small bundle that was their son up against her, his soft head of blond down resting on her shoulder and his eyes closed, hiding the byakugan behind pale lids. Neji couldn't help but smile.

He went to them and began to pull the sleeping baby from his wife's arms only to have her eyes snap open and her grip tighten fractionally. He smiled when her eyes found him and she allowed him to continue lifting the child from her. He placed the baby in his crib and came back to Ino, who was rubbing out a crick in her neck.

She gasped as he gathered her up into his arms and started walking back to their room carrying her bridal style. He kept his eyes forward and stoically ignored the question he knew she was asking him with her eyes. He could hardly tell her he had come looking for him because he was jealous she had left their room to take care of their month old son. She would probably laugh at him and then smack upside the head for being an idiot. It was a situation he would like to avoid.

They reached their room and Neji gently lay her down on her side of the bed, kissing her on the for head before walking around to climb in on the other side. He briefly considered unplugging the baby monitor, but thought better of it, knowing just how stupid the momentary idea was. It didn't matter now any way, he thought, as he turned to gather his wife into his arms. She was back where she belonged.

AN: I liked the idea of this, but thought it way to far out to be part of my other Neji/Ino story 'Unexpected Places'. Tell me what you think please ^_^
