There's gotta be something I don't know, thought Sebastian as he finished scooping himself some ice cream and put the container away. Something they're not telling me. No brother and sister he knew touched each other in quite the same way he'd just seen Clary and Jace touching.
He couldn't shake the image of Jace pressing Clary up against the side of the house, kissing her like there was no tomorrow. And what was one supposed to do when he came across something like that? Sebastian thought he'd made the right decision in turning abruptly around and walking straight back into the house.
He jumped up onto the kitchen bench and started eating his ice cream. Isabelle was leaning over the bench a few feet away from him, leafing through a magazine. Sebastian had thought the only safe thing to do after witnessing retina-burning imagery like that was to find refuge with sane people and ice cream.
But still, he was curious. Horrified, but curious. He was so horrifyingly curious that he couldn't find it in himself to be annoyed at finding another guy kissing Clary. He was fairly sure that Clary reciprocated his feelings, and Jace didn't even seem like a competitor. He was her brother, for God's sake! But just why Jace had been practically attacking Clary, Sebastian couldn't fathom.
Maybe Isabelle knew something.
"Isabelle," Sebastian began
thoughtfully.
"Mm?" replied Isabelle, turning a
page.
"Is there something," Sebastian paused to chuckle.
"This is going to sound strange, but is there something between
Jace and Clary?" Isabelle looked up.
"What, you mean
like...?" she trailed off. Sebastian tapped his spoon against
his leg.
"Yeah," Sebastian replied.
"God no,
they're family!" Isabelle's voice sounded a little false. "Why
do you ask?"
"Well, I was outside just now, and they
seemed fairly... intimate." Isabelle's eyes
widened.
"No way." Her expression looked a mix between
horrified and disgusted.
"Yes," he replied with a drawl.
"So?"
Isabelle had her nose screwed up, and it was a few
moments before she answered. "In New York I had pretty firm
evidence that there was something going on. I mean, when we met Clary
we had no idea she was related to Jace, and it was a week, two weeks
before we found out they were. I didn't think they'd let it continue.
I didn't think Clary would let it continue, at the very
least." Isabelle took a moment to shake her head. "What
were they doing outside?" she asked incredulously.
"They
were kissing." The gravity of what he'd just said hit Sebastian
like a tonne of bricks. "They were kissing. God, that
is so messed up."
"Well, go and stop them before the
adults get back!" said Isabelle, almost shrieking.
"Why
me? I'm removed from the situation. There's no way I'm getting into
this." Isabelle rolled her eyes dramatically.
"I know.
They need a good shock." She pulled the bowl out of his hands,
yanked him off the bench and pushed him towards the door. "Hurry!"
she hissed.
"You so owe me," Sebastian hissed
back.
He shut the door behind him and slowly walked around to the side of the house. At the very least they'd had the good sense to stand behind a tall bush, obscuring them from the road view. He mentally prepared himself for the bizarre situation he was about to witness again. He stepped around the bush and-
They weren't there.
Sebastian couldn't help but be a little glad. Confrontations weren't really his style; he was more of a repress and ignore kind of guy, and he certainly didn't want to confront Clary about this little incident. Maybe he'd just go inside and pretend it never happened. Surely he could just glean information from Isabelle when she went on the rampage she would inevitably go on? That sounded like the safest course of action.
The only thing was that Sebastian wasn't sure if he could ever kiss Clary in quite the same way again.
