It's just a normal day here at Hollywood Arts. It's just after spring break, and I walk in the big double doors, shooing away a group of freshmen as I strut past them. Goddamn Freshman. As I approach my locker, Robbie is there. "What do you want?" I snap at him, drawing my scissors out of my bag and running my fingers across the blades. Nice and sharp, just the way I like them. "How do ya do this fine mornin?" Robbie says with a smile. I hate to admit it, but I've always had a sort of soft spot for the kid. "I'm good." I say, looking him up and down. He has dark circles under his eyes, like he hasn't slept all night. "Why are you here?" "Well, I wanted to tell you about something really important, but-" The sweet chime of the bell interrupts him. He jumps at the sound, scrambling a few steps back. He has that deer in the headlights look on his face. "Here- meet me in the janitor's closet at lunch!" He gasps before dashing off. That guy seems to be losing his marbles, I think to myself as I collect my books from my locker, shaking my head slightly. That whole morning I wonder about it. What could be so important? Why did he have dark circles under his eyes?
By the time lunch rolls around, I am so anxious to know. I've always had that curiosity. I half-run to the janitor's closet, and the whole gang is there. Andre, Tori, Cat, My ex-boyfriend Beck, and Robbie. They all stare at me. I stand next to Cat and the whole group erupts into conversation.
"What is this meeting about, Robbie?" Tori asks, her dangly earrings shaking with the movement of her head.
"Okay, guys, I want to tell you about a really awesome thing I did over break. I seem to have constructed a time machine. I think we can go back in time in it." He crosses his arms and looks at us, a smug smile on his face. Instead, the whole group bursts into laughter, including myself. "That's so stupid! We have all seen those movies!" I manage to gasp out before laughter overtakes me once more.
Once we were all done laughing, Robbie looks hurt. "It IS true!" He insists like a five year old. "Come after school today and see for yourselves!"
"Fine, don't you guys think that we should go?" Andre stands up and puts his hand on Robbie's shoulder.
"Sorry Robbie, I have a-" Tori Starts, but is interrupted by Cat.
"Robbie, I have to...go to my brothers school tonight. sorry!" She then runs out, giggling like a maniac.
"yeah, i gotta go to my grandma's house tonight, Rob." Andre holds open the door for Tori, who follows him out. It is just me and Robbie. "Well, I guess I could come. What time?" I ask, looking down at my feet. "How about 5? I'll make you dinner." Robbie says, blushing a bit, his eyes darting back and forth between the wall and me. "Sounds good. See you then." I walk out the door, my mind reeling. A time machine, huh? I am actually a bit excited to see if it actually works.
