A/N I haven't written in a year, and I don't like drabbles. I appreciate the art form of a good drabble, and that they leave you hungry for more, but because fanfiction is my escape, I love multi-chapters and copious details. But I had to pick up the pen for Agents of Shield and make an alternate ending to Jemma's time in Hydra. How many ways could that have ended badly? Soooo many. So here's my drabble/alt. ending that takes place after ep. 2 x 3 (Making Friends and Influencing People) and befor (A Hen in the Wolf House).
"Delta Charlie."
"I'm here," Coulson responded into his earpiece.
"I was unable to secure the package intact."
He felt his pulse hiccup and then speed up in anticipation. "Could you clarify?"
A pause. "This channel's unsecure. I have the package." Another pause. "The package is … stiff."
The world blurred grey and shook with the staccatoed beats of his heart. A long silence passed. "Thank you." His voice felt deeper than normal. "Proceed as planned."
If there was an answer, he didn't hear it.
"What happened?" Coulson looked up at Skye's question. Damn. The team briefing.
"Agent Simmons is dead."
A/N The voice speaking to Coulson is Bobbie Morse and she is trying to get news to Coulson without access to a secure channel because she is still in there alone. Tripp isn't there, because SHIELD didn't have a heads up from Raina that Simmons was going down. However, I like the thought that Bobbie will still find a way to return Simmons' body home. I know, I ruined the mystique by not letting y'all figure that out by yourselves (and I'm sure you already did!)
