"Leonard!" The exasperation was clearly evident in Penny's voice. "It'll be fine. He's not going to hurt you. Don't you remember I showed you that e-mail? He said he's really happy we're back together."
Penny exited from the passenger side of the rental car and made her way around to the front. Leonard quickly grabbed the keys out of the ignition, stepped out of the car and hurried to catch up to his fiancé, clicking the key fob to lock the doors. He didn't care what Penny said about not having to lock cars in Nebraska, while they were here, he wanted to be extra careful.
"Yea, I know," Leonard whined. "But that was before. Now we're engaged. He's gonna know that – you know – we ummm…." He paused and hurried to get closer so as not to have to shout. "He'll know we have sex!" he whispered.
"Oh for heaven's sake, Leonard. Of course we have sex. Everyone in my family knows we have sex."
Penny had reached the door and roughly jerked it open. Leonard quickly grabbed it and held it open while she proceeded inside. He followed her, looking around as he walked through a short hallway. He noticed a number of framed photos and other items adorning the walls.
"Really, Leonard. If he didn't think we were having sex, he would wonder what's wrong with you, and then he might really hurt you."
"Okay, okay. So I'll make sure to let him know we have sex. Lots and lots of sex. He'll think I'm a regular sex pervert!"
"Leonard!" Penny turned to stare at him. "Don't say that here!" she whispered. "Someone might believe you and then we'll really be in trouble!"
"I can't help it!" he answered. "I'm nervous and you know when I'm nervous my smart brain shuts down and my idiot mouth takes over."
Penny softened, reached a hand up and gently cupped his cheek. "It really will be ok, Leonard. He knows how much I love you. He'll love you too, just because. So come on – let's get in there, ok?"
She took his hand and led him into another room. They walked to one end of the room where a tall older man stood, his eyes following as they approached. Penny grabbed a chair and sat down, motioning for Leonard to sit beside her. She picked up an old-fashioned telephone handset and smiled brightly.
"Hey, Bobby!" She paused a moment. "Yea, it's great to see you, too. Bobby, this is Leonard Hofstadter. Leonard, this is my brother, Bobby."
Leonard waved meekly at the man on the other side of the glass, wondering if the intimidating symbols that covered the man's arms were authentic "prison tats".
The guard walked up behind them and pushed a button. A digital timer lit up on the bottom of the glass divider in front of Penny. "Fifteen minutes, folks."
