"No one was prepared for what lie ahead. The battle would be fierce and there was no assurance that the group would live to see the next day. The enemy ahead was quite formidable…"

An incessant tugging at his ears interrupted the story. Looking down at the small child in his lap, he sighed. "You and those hands. Do you get that from your father?" The girl only giggled in response. Gently grabbing both of her hands he settled back to continue the story.

"The older brother of the hero, a complete show off, had jumped into the battle without a second thought. He was quickly tossed aside without any effort leaving an opening for his younger, much more talented brother to unleash a fatal attack. Readying the sword, the hero concentrated fully on the evil being in front of him."

An awed gasp sounded from the tiny girl. "Did it work?"

"You bet it did. Naraku was revealed for what he truly was, a shell of a human body combined with many demons. The attack set the demons free, but they were quickly taken care of leaving behind a burned mutilated body."

A whap to the back of his head interrupted the story once more. Turning, Inuyasha paled as he realized Sango stood behind him. "She asked to hear it!"

"Inuyasha! She's only four years old. You could at least leave out the blood and gore and focus on the other parts."

"But mama, that's the best part!"

The small voice made Sango pause before glaring at Inuyasha. The hanyou smirked in response, patting the girl in his lap. "See? And it's not like she hasn't heard worse from Miroku!"

Sango only glared as Inuyasha continued the story again. "Well, that was really the entire battle. No one was quite sure what to do after the evil demon had been defeated. That wimpy wolf had run off to his pack to nurse his wounds no doubt. The others who were there went off somewhere and your mom and dad disappeared pretty quickly."

Ignoring the sound of a clearing throat, Inuyasha continued on in a lighter tone of voice. "Kikyou had fulfilled her promise to see Naraku dead and returned to the earth once more. She finally found her peace and was able to rest and give the rest of her soul to Kagome." Pausing, Inuyasha searched for the right words to tell the rest of the story.

Footsteps lightly walked away from where he sat and he realized Sango was giving him the privacy to share the rest of his story. Lightly running a hand through the small girl's hair he once again began to tell the tale.

"I think I always knew that Kagome and I would never end up together in the end. We came from two different worlds. Her world was very modern and full of strange sights while this one was home to me, it was all I knew. We tried to make it work, but in the end, we both saw it was just no use."

"She returned home shortly after that final battle and we haven't heard from her since. I can only hope she's happy."

Two tiny arms wound around his waist, squeezing with all their might. "Don't worry, you'll always have me. I'll love you forever!"

Inuyasha smiled, returning the hug. "You know you're my favorite girl, Kagome, but I think you're a bit young to be promising that sort of thing."
