Ellie always trusted chuck. Even with all the spying and deceitfulness, she still trusted him. That's why when a CIA agent turned up with Sarah she knew he'd have done something to break that trust. Sarah sat Ellie down, she began talking about how Chuck was brave and selfless. Ellie knew what came next, she could see it in Sarah's eyes, the utter hopelessness.
"Chuck Ellie oh god I am so sorry…. Chuck…." Sarah didn't need to go on. Ellie knew, she had known days ago. She blamed herself after she moved away Chuck's life had fallen apart. The woman he loved had lost her memory and after that it was one thing after another. She supposed she should be proud. Chuck had died saving everyone he loved.

Death threats. The words seemed so foreign to Ellie Woodcomb. The fact he had died to make sure the threat had been neutralized was strange to her.

After Mr CIA and Sarah had gone home Ellie cried. She felt numb, her brother couldn't be gone. It was inconceivable, impossible. The brother who she helped raise into a man was gone. Even though they were still as close as they ever were she felt betrayed. He never told her. That was the only thing that could break her trust and make her respect him at the same time. He had died to save her and Clara and everyone else.

Devon came home to find Ellie curled up in a ball. He sent Clara to her room and read the opened letter on the table.

Dear Ellie,

I am so sorry. They had found my greatest weakness. They had found you. I am sorry I had to die so you can be safe, I wish I could hug you, I wish I could wipe your tears away. I know we lost our parents I know I was your last relative but you have Clara and Devon you don't need me anymore. I'm glad we were close I'm glad you raised me and I'm glad that you never changed. I love you Ellie I love you so much it hurts. You were my mum, dad, sibling, best friend and confident all in one. That's why I did it you WILL NOT get hurt because of my job.
I love you Ellie don't forget that,
your little brother Charles.

Devon frowned. Oh chuck she does need you. He would've attempted to help Ellie up but it would be no use.

Eleanor Faye Bartowski had just lost the most important person in her life.
