Mirror
It had been a long day, from being kidnapped to being held hostage at a ranch, Kate Todd was just glad to be home. She got out of her car walked up the porch steps of her townhouse and unlocked the door with an antique key. Kate smiled as she had foolishly spent two hundred dollars to make that key. She pushed herself into the door and stumbled into the landing of her home. She hung her coat on the rack, kicked off her heels and walked up the stairs to the master bathroom. Immediately she washed her face, she picked up the towel and began dabbing her wet face, but immediately dropped her towel when she saw his face in the mirror staring at her. She turned around, only to be met with an empty doorway. She relaxed somewhat as she turned back to the mirror. He was still watching her.
His face somber; his brown eyes soft and unguarded. His high cheek bones defined under his unshaven stubble. His mouth was neither in a smile nor in a frown; indifferent, but still with emotion. He spoke:
"Caitlin" he said. "What do you think of me?"
"You're a lying bastard," she replied repeating what she had said earlier that day.
"Then why didn't you stab me when you had the chance?"
She hesitated, "Because I saw something in you."
"Really, what?" he inquired.
"A person, behind the killer/murder exterior, I saw a person."
"You're the only one." He laughed cynically.
"I'm sure I'm not." She replied softly.
"I suppose you're right; Ziva doesn't think me so, but besides you two; no one."
She smiled beside herself.
"I love you," he confessed.
"Maybe in a different lifetime," she replied looking down.
She looked up to see her own reflection had replaced his. Walking away from the mirror and into her room, she paused at the window that over looked the street looking at the moon.
Outside, a man leaning against a red motorcycle in black leather jacket with a single of white and a single of red initiating at the shoulder and traveling down the arms looked at the woman in the window. "Good night, Caitlin," he whispered softly, as he put on his red helmet. He revved his engine and sped off.
Inside, the sound of motorcycle engine pulled Kate away from the moon. She saw a red motorcycle speeding down the street, turning the corner on the main road, and disappearing out of sight. She smiled. "Definitely in a different lifetime," she repeated to herself.
