The Hale house was quiet that night as Derek did his routine of pull-ups using the old kitchen door frame, but only 5 reps in, he heard a loud, impatient knocking at the door. Derek sighed and walked towards it slowly, assuming it was just Scott or Stiles with something that was really only important to teenagers. He slowly turned the knob and as soon as the door was unlocked, it hit him in the face.
"Derek!" Ruby yelled before she noticed him lying on the floor. "Oh…sorry I guess I pushed harder than I thought."
Derek rubbed his head slightly, a smirk across his face as he stood up. "It's ok, why are you in such a rush?"
Ruby seemed to remember why she came in the first place, she went back to looking worried and began pacing across the Hale living room. "It's Rumpelstiltskin," she noticed Derek's look of confusion at the name before clarifying, "Mr. Gold, you know the one with magic who makes deals with everyone I told you about? He's been planning something for a while, right under our noses. It's finally happening…he's sending us back." She looked up at the werewolf in front of her, her eyes feeling hot as she felt her tears coming on. Ever since she was able to remember she was Red the werewolf, she could leave town. She counted herself so lucky that Beacon Hills was the town she found, and that the other werewolf she ran into on the full moon was Derek.
Derek's eyebrows furrowed, if this was true then he would never see Ruby again. She came into his life soon after his uncle told him how important human love was. She was his friend, the eccentric werewolf girl who wore more red than anyone he ever met, and just so happened to be straight from a fairytale, ironically enough she was little red riding hood. He remembered the day he accidentally wolfed out on her, she laughed as he stammered out an apology. What he remembered most of that day was what she said to him: "It's fine Derek, you're my big bad wolf but I can handle myself."
"Can't you stay? We can find a way to keep you here, right?" Derek walked over to her and guided her to the couch so she could sit down, she immediately let her head rest on his shoulder before the tears began to spill.
"I don't think anything will work, we all came here together, and now we all have to go back." She tilted her head to look up at him. "I don't want to go back, there's nothing for me there. I'm just a monster people hunt and parents tell their children about to scare them. Here I have you, I never felt I belonged anywhere but here."
The man put his arm around her shoulders, trying to be comforting without showing how worried he was. She changed him a bit, made him open up more. He was worried that if she was gone, he would never be able to open up again, to anyone. "We can fix this, I won't give up. When is this Gold guy planning this whole thing?"
Ruby's voice was so quiet, he barely heard her. "Tonight. I just had to see my big bad wolf one more time, to tell him I love him." Derek was paralyzed in shock, this was too soon. Ruby sat up then, leaning over to him and kissed him, the kind of kiss you give someone as your heart is being ripped away. When she pulled away, Derek opened his eyes, but she disappeared in thin air.
