Forgiveness
John was just finishing up on summarizing his latest hunt for Dean. "I know you and Sam wanted to come, but it's too dangerous. The witch requires a blood sacrifice from people sharing a bond 'stronger than steel'," he explained, knowing Dean would understand. "So I don't want you or Sam in any danger."
"It's all right, Dad," Dean replied. "I get it."
"Good boy," said John approvingly. "How's the research coming on for Sam?"
"Oh yeah, he's done, wanted me to tell you to get to a computer, he's going to email you."
John sighed. "I take it there's a lot of info?"
Dean grinned. "Yep."
"Damn." Lots of info usually meant a backbreaking hunt. Then, "Where is he?"
"Asleep," Dean told him. He chuckled fondly. "Won't say it, but he misses you."
John's sad smile was almost audible. "He's a good kid." Sam was sixteen and it was getting harder day by day for John to tame him, but he was still his baby boy no matter how old he got, and John could not help but worry. Sam and Dean were all he had.
"When are you going to be back?" Dean's voice cut into John's thoughts.
"In four or five days, hopefully," John answered. "You take good care of Sam, now. And look after yourself."
"Yessir."
"That's my boy." There was a slight pause, as if John was hesitating, and then he said, "Dean, I need you to do something for me."
Dean crept into the room he shared with Sam. The kid was fast asleep, which made Dean's mission easier. He was usually averse to this sort of thing, but John and Sam had fought a few hours earlier (Sam had wanted very badly to be allowed on this hunt) and Dean knew how much this would mean to John, though John would never say it.
He tiptoed up to his brother's sleeping form and sat down beside him, taking in his innocent face and the little grimace that pulled on his lips. Dean knew Sam woud never admit it either, but his fight with John had upset him.
Silently Dean leaned forward and pressed a soft little kiss to his brother's forehead. "From Dad," he whispered, and he could have sworn Sam's face relaxed. The kid even smiled a little.
Satisfied, Dean brushed Sam's hair out of his eyes before leaving the room and calling to let John know he was forgiven.
End.
So how was it? Good? Bad? Horrible? Bad enough to be ground into capsules and used as anesthesia? Do let me know :)
