He knew he should have gone with Plan B.
The way Hakuba had been courting the Mistress all night; he should have known to pick someone else as his escape disguise.
And now he was fucked.
All eyes were on them as they waltzed through the very crowded, Task Force infested ballroom. (And if Kaito was being honest with himself, he wasn't really 'waltzing.')
"Aren't you scared, my lady?" Hakuba's golden brown eyes danced with amusement-like he knew. "The thief is among us and your beautiful ruby is in danger. Kaito was pulled closer, the detectives grip a bit tighter than it should have been for a 'delicate maiden.' Somehow Hakuba managed to wiggle his other, not death gripped arm, in between them, lifting the chained gem delicately.
Kaito shivered. (Hakuba's hand was waaay too close to his water bra). Kaito laughed nervously. "I'm sure you could protect me!" He batted his eyelashes, wanting to gag. Kaito prayed the song would fucking end. Hakuba's hand was back on the small of his back and had started roaming.
Hakuba leaned in close, making it look like he had three eyes. "What if I'm KID?" the music stopped and Kaito was aware of the slight commotion from behind them. The girl must have woken up.
Hakuba looked over Kaito's shoulder.
Dread filled the thief. Only one way out. His hand on Hakuba's shoulder roughly (as roughly as he could in a dress and elbow length silk gloves) pulled Hakuba back slightly before crashing him back against him, smashing their faces together.
Hakuba froze as a shrill voice screamed out 'Imposter!' Kaito held on, trying to figure out what he was going to do next as the taller boy tried to shove him off. Kaito held on, smirking as he heard the thundering should of the herd of Task Force Officers. He pulled back enough to see Hakuba's mortified face before giving him a wicked grin before smashing a flash bomb on the ground, blinding the detective and the Task Force long enough to make his escape, the ruby still around his neck.

I wrote this a few months ago when I rewatched Magic Kaito. SO AWESOME! *drools*
Still haven't finished... watched it twice up till like episode 8 or something...
