AN: This is my first attempt at writing anything and was done so with a half baked idea at three in the morning so please be gentle and enjoy. Also this has not been beta read so I am sorry for any mistakes that may appear.
The Final Battle
Harry stared out over the grounds of Hogwarts School for witchcraft and wizardry, power flowing through him from the runic circle carefully carved into the floor of the tower, as the dark army approached form the forbidden forest. He thanked whoever was watching over him that he found that room all those years ago.
**********************************************************************************FLASHBACK
He was wandering through the halls of Hogwarts testing a new spell that Hermione had found that could help him in this ridiculous tournament, the spell allowed the user to view magical energy in objects. While trying to avoid anyone that should cross his path he notices a window with a very large amount of magical energy. He would spend all his free time here over the next days and weeks attempting to figure out what the window hid, and when he did he was blown away.
It turned out that behind the window was the study of Rowena Ravenclaw containing all her personal notes on her subject of choice, runic magic.
Harry spent the next few years studying these notes in secret whenever he could, growing distant and worrying Ron and Hermione. The notes contained hundreds of useful runic arrays from simple cleaning and heating to powerful defensive and offensive structures.
At the start of his seventh year at Hogwarts Harry began to lay these structures around the school and grounds disguising them using various methods, both muggle and magical, all in preparation for this day.
The circle he was standing in atop his tower was linked to all the runic structures that were laid about the grounds and powered by the earth itself. As the army passed the Quidditch pitch he activated the first set of offensive runes carved into the base of the stands, setting the pitch on fire and killing anyone in a 300 meter radius. The army continued to charge even with reduced numbers heading towards the school. As they grew closer a second set of runes activated, defensive this time throwing the waves of attackers back towards the Quidditch pitch that was still happily burning casting a flickering orange glow across the grounds.
Wave after wave of creatures and death eaters were repelled or killed by the many runic arrays scattered throughout the grounds. Voldemort eventually decided to show his face easily breaking through the runes until he was standing on the steps leading up to the main doors. It was now that Harry activated the final runes carved just for Voldemort. This was by far the hardest set that he had carved, designed to pull a soul from a body and convert it into pure magical energy and add it to the wards protecting Hogwarts. Once this was done the death eaters fell to the ground screaming and clutching their dark mark as their own magic was drawn through their marks trying keep their masters body alive.
The battle was over and not a single life was lost on the side of the light and Harry Potter quietly slipped away to his family home that he had upgraded with some of the most powerful runic defences that he had created of found. Harry spent the next several years hiding from the magical world, which just served to increase interest in the young wizard, creating magical artefacts based on his studies of runes. Various shows appeared on the wizarding wireless reporting sightings of the young hero and the world kept turning and everything was as it was before.
