Thought I would try chapters for a change. This is my idea of Salvation.
Disclaimer: No claims, ties or affiliations with Smallville.
Possible Salvation:
Adversaries, Clark Kent and Dru-Zod, flew faster and faster toward each other, the
intergalactic version of chicken. However, neither would swerve, these twin blurs that had
but one goal, absolute victory over the other. There was the inevitable collision between
them. It had created a type of concussive explosion, one that had never before been
witnessed on Planet Earth. Two became one, as they plummeted toward the city of
Metropolis. The impact of which knocked Lois Lane off her feet, and out of consciousness.
She fought hard against the inky blackness that threatened to fill her mind. Lois willed
herself not to fall into the darkness, she forced her eyes to open. Clouds of dust and smoke
swirled in a thick haze around her. A cough racked her body, as she squinted her eyes
against the particles that floated in the air. Water gushed forth from a burst water main, and
what sounded to her like a hundred car alarms that had gone off from the force of the impact.
Determined to see what had happened to the two men, she had managed to have pulled
herself toward the large, open hole the two combatants had created. Trying to focus on the
scene below her, she saw the back of one Son of Krypton, as he stood over what remained
of the other. A wave of sickness swept over her, the edge of blackness tried to seek her out
again. NO! NO! NO! She screamed in her mind. NO! She had to know. Had to know who
it was that still stood there. Was it Clark, or not. Or not. The jolt of pain that accompanied
that particular possibility, she clamped that right off. She was NOT going there. She would
do what The General would do, she'd 'soldier up'. Lois put all she could into an attempt to
call out to the figure below. "Clark…?" She barely recognized the sound of her own voice.
Her heart hammered in anticipation. Her head felt like it would split in two. She gritted her
teeth, and concentrated on the only thing that mattered to her. Smallville. Finally, there was
movement from the figure below. It seemed to take tremendous effort for him to turn toward
the sound of her voice. It felt like years to Lois, she almost missed what she had so wanted
to hear the most. She strained to catch any sound at all that would tell her if the man she
loved, was the one that had turned to her. "Lois…". He had croaked out her name. God,
she thought, he sounded so awful, but never had she heard a more wonderful sound to her.
Clark had did it. He had survived. Filled with relief, she opened her mouth and tried to say
more, but felt her heart as it gave a lurch. She watched as he had tried to take a step, only to
have fallen to his knees. That galvanized her, she had to go to him, to help him anyway she
could. She launched herself over the rim of the crater, slid and tumbled her way down to
where Clark struggled to remain upright. Lois used all of what was left of her energy to
crawl toward him. He in turn, used what remained of his strength, and gathered her in.
Forehead to forehead, they supported one another. As Lois held onto him, she felt him tilt
his head up, turning his face toward the rising sun. The warmth of which had finally
reached them, as the dust cloud had begun to dissipate. Lois could feel him as he gained
strength, which in turn, brought about the return of hers. She hugged him to her fiercely,
looked over his shoulder toward the motionless body of Zod. That could have been Clark.
She closed her eyes, and wondered how did they come out of this. Her thoughts drifted back
in time.
