Disclaimer: I own nothing.
Today was the day. Today was the day I would find out the truth, did I do enough to be in the Super Hero Squad. I was so excited, but I was so nerves. But mostly excited. I was certain I had done enough. I mean, come on, I gave up the one thing that gave me my powers. All to save the earth. That was good enough, right? No, I would shake all negative thoughts from my mind, I had to stay positive. You know what they say, fake it until you make it. Not that it really applied to me at the moment.
I glanced around Stark Tower. I don't know why Iron Man chose to have the meeting here. Technically speaking this wasn't even a meeting. But he is the leader or the Super Hero Squad, and hopefully I will have to follow him more often. Okay that didn't even make sense; ok maybe I was a little nervous. But wouldn't you be as well? I mean, Wolverine, who is like the most high strung person to every live, is having a meeting with Iron Man AKA Tony Stark, who is the biggest critic in Super Hero City. So yes, I am nervous.
James Rhodes AKA War Machine opened the door to Tony's office and beckoned me inside. This was it; my future would boil down to this one moment. The moment where it would be decided whether I had what took to be a Super Hero. Alright, let's do this I thought, determined not to quiver.
I stepped into the room with as much innocence as I could muster. I didn't want to come off as arrogant, but I probably went the opposite way and looked scared as a mouse cornered by my pet Frederick; or Fred for short. I took a seat slowly and looked across the Iron Man. I had to swallow my pride for just this one moment, once I heard was I needed to hear I would bring it back up again. Iron Man stared at me with piecing blue eyes.
"Reptil, as you know, you have been training with the Super Hero Squad under the watchful if your mentor Wolverine; to see if you have what it takes to be a Squaddie and ultimately a Superhero," Iron Man breathed out smoothly.
Easy for him, he's not in the hot seat, I thought bitterly.
"And after much consideration with Wolvie over there," Wolverine let out a growl. "We've decided that even after everything you've done, through it was a lot,"
Oh no, I didn't make it.
"We've decided to make you a full time Squaddie, congrats kid," Wolverine finished.
I gazed up at them both happily. This was great! This was awesome! There was nothing that could possibly ruin this moment.
"Thank You," I squeaked. I froze.
Wolverine and Iron Man stared at me strangely. They then shared a glance with each other; and burst out laughing. I couldn't believe it, I just couldn't. It had to happen today, why toady of all days; my voice had cracked. I was only fifteen, that's young when it comes to you voice cracking, isn't it? I glared at the two older Squaddies.
"It's not funny!"
Wolverine laughed. "Save your voice kid, we got a party to get to,"
"Yeah Reptil, the whole team is waiting to celebrate, now let's go!" Iron Man urged.
I walked out of the room with wolverine and Iron Man.
"Oh, and one more thing kid," I stopped to look at my ex-mentor. "You better let us do the talking,"
He and Tony roared with laughter. I frowned' it was gonna be a long night.
