Title: Wanting to be with you

Disclaimer: I do not own Once Upon a Time in anyway.

Summary: Spoilers for Lacey. Gold's thoughts as he watches his son and grandson play sword fight.

this has not been betaed I apologize for any mistakes.

Mr. Gold walked along the park's path, his steps slow and deliberate, the only sound he made was the gentle tapping of his cane against the wooden walkway boards.

He stopped some way off so that his son and grandson would not see him.

That dream, or rather nightmare, he had had last night startled him. Henry was his grandson.. his blood he should be in as much love with the child as he was with Bae.

Gold winced as his bad leg protested standing still in one place for long. The shopkeeper moved about; still out of sight of his offspring.

"the boy will be my undoing." he mumbled to himself.

He had always liked Henry, truth was he had immediately felt some connection to the child but he hadn't known why at the time.

He still cared for the boy….harming Henry would be the stupidest thing he could do. Not only would the entire town want him dead (including Regina) but his son, the whole reason behind his creating the curse, would never forgive him.

Hearing Baelfire's deep laugh, Gold looked up from his brooding and saw henry chasing his father around a picnic table. Gold smiled to himself, it made his ancient heart glad to hear his boy laugh again and have fun. Back in the Enchanted Forest he would often watch Bae play and the boy's laughter always sounded like the sweetest music to his ears.

He was not going to lie and say that hearing his grandson's laughter didn't bring a smile to his face aswell, before he had become the dark one and his son had been called off to fight, he'd imagined what life would be like for him and his son as the years rolled by.

Would Baelfire become a weaver like his father? would he be a farmer? or something else?

would Bae have married and then leave him to spend his days alone.

Or perhaps, like what was customary in their land, his son would have asked Rumple to move in with him and his wife so that Bae could now take care of Rumple from that time on. Would he have spent his old age minding grandchildren and living happily with his son?

Gold was drawn back when he saw Henry take a tumble in his over exuberant play with his father. He took a few steps forward and then stopped himself. Bae was picking Henry up and dusting the boy off.. he was fine. The boy would be his undoing…..

Gold sighed, how he missed Belle. she would always be his guiding light.

He knows what she would say, that Henry was his grandson and that he should spend as much time with the child as he could; especially now that he had his son back in his life. He wanted to be in Henry's life, to be a grandfather to him but his cowardice held him back; he had the power to see the future but no matter how hard he tried he could not see how Henry would be his undoing.

The End
