Sometimes Katie feels guilty for being so happy. She feels it whenever she finds out Jen is on yet another undercover mission, when Lucas mentions how far away Nadira seems sometimes, or those rare instances when she and Alex pass by in a corridor and she just knows that he's staring at her. And it's not like things are perfect for her now, either: even though she's thrilled to be back with her family, it still hurts when she has a memory that they don't or vice-versa (one of the less admirable qualities of changing history).
She shouldn't be happy. In fact, she probably should be miserable.
"Katie!" Trip's smile is pure sunshine as he comes bounding up to her. "I finally fixed all the bugs in the new programming Captain Logan wants for the security systems. It's gonna be up a month earlier than I'd originally planned." His expression is still bright, even with the hint of nervousness creeping in. "I was going to celebrate by going out to dinner, and thought that, maybe, you might sort of kind of want to go out to dinner too? Um, with me that is."
"You're offering the chance to eat real food instead of what the commissary feeds us? Lead the way."
She probably should be miserable. But as long as Trip's with her, she can't help but be happy.
