Prologue
I blinked open my eyes and frowned. Where was I? Trees completely surrounded me; huge oaks that made my head spin as I tried to see where they ended. My mouth felt like dry cotton, and my head felt as if it would rupture.
I stood up and walked to a nearby clearing, feeling like I should scream. There was nobody in the forest, nothing that could help me get out. I tried to think back on how I got there, but my memory was blank. I couldn't remember anyone who could help me either. Come to think of it, who was I?
Something was terribly wrong. There were no birds chirping, no winds that made the trees sway, absolutely nothing.
The sun hung in the cloudless sky, but I did not feel its warmth. I shuddered, and slumped under a tree. There was no hope.
I heard the bushes cackle, and a man appeared out of nowhere. Tall thin, golden eyes that studied me intently, making me nervous but glad there was a human there.
"Who are you?" he asked.
"That's just it, I don't know."
