Dr. Miles McCabe paced around his tiny apartment, holding the medical journal in front of him. He needed to get out of this god-forsaken town and soon. He had been here for three months, and like with every other place he'd worked, he was already bored. He looked at the red circles in the employment section and stoped pacing. He took his cell phone from his pocket and dialled.

"Hi… I'm calling to enquire about the job at the National Institute of Health."

--

Miles sat in the foyer of N.I.H headquarters, fidgeting with his cufflinks. He was waiting for an interview with the head of N.I.H, and nervous didn't even begin to describe his feelings.

The phone rang at the reception desk and the receptionist answered it.

"Dr. McCabe?" she asked, and Miles looked up. "You can go in for your interview now. It's the third door on your left." She pointed to a long hallway, and he nodded.

He walked slowly down the hallway, passing only one person- a young woman with medium length brown hair, speaking angrily into a cell phone. She looked up as he passed and mouthed "Good Luck". He smiled and kept walking. He reached the room and pushed the door open, nervously.

--

The shrill ring of his cell jerked Miles from a deep sleep. He felt around his bedside table and found it. Rubbing his eyes, he answered sleepily.

"Hello?"

"Dr.McCabe? This is Marcie, from N.I.H reception, regarding your job application" said the voice on the other end, causing Miles to wake up immediately. "We've decided that you would be a valuable addition to our team. When can you start?"
