Burning Tears
Elphaba Thropp had only cried three times in her whole life.
The first time was at the age of three, when the boys and girls at the daycare in Rush Margins started throwing rocks at her and calling her "Froggy" She discovered that tears brought nothing but a scorching pain on her cheeks, so she quit instantly. The second time, she couldn't block a tear from running down her face as she watched Glinda's carriage roll away, carrying her one true friend.
The third time was a much better excuse to burn her skin than the other two.
Elphaba walked back to the old corn exchange in disappointment. She had failed her mission all because of a bunch of children. As she reached the door, she noticed that it was already unlocked. Maybe Fiyero had somehow picked the lock and was waiting for her inside.
Elphaba quietly climbed up the stairs into the main room where a horrible sight met her eyes. Papers had been thrown everywhere, chairs were overturned, and the elephant's skull was broken into a million pieces. Obviously the Gale Force had been there.
Thinking quickly, she climbed upstairs to collect her important belongings and flee. As soon as she entered the room though, all thoughts of leaving were dispelled instantly. The walls and floor had bloodstains on them. But what caught Elphaba's attention was a figure laying on the floor, illuminated by a shaft of moonlight.
"Fiyero!" she gasped, quickly walking across the small room and knelling by his side. Fiyero's face was deathly pale and he was bleeding heavily. She held his cold hands in hers, paying to whoever that he was alive, "Please Fiyero, don't be dead! Please be alive! Oh Unnamed God, Yero! I love you too much for you to be dead! Please....." Elphaba felt a burning sensation in her eyes, as if they were on fire, and her sight became blurred. She tried to force the tears away, unwilling to feel their pain.
"Don't cry Fae, you'll burn yourself."
Elphaba's vision cleared instantly and she found herself looking into a pair of startling blue eyes.
"Yero, thank Oz your alive, I'll heal you somehow......." her voice trailed off and he held her hands in his a bit tighter.
"No Fae, there is nothing you can do to save me, I'm going." he whispered, voice tight with pain.
"Yero....." Elphaba started, but she knew he was right. Nothing she could do would help him. "I-I love you."
He chuckled softly, "I know Fae, I know., and I love you too"
She looked into those perfect blue eyes and didn't say anything. He smiled at her and she saw something leave his eyes; it was as if a shadow had passed over them.
Fiyero's hands dropped from hers onto the floor. "No...." she breathed, unable to believe it. She laid across his bloody chest, letting the tears run down her face, wishing the burning water that was scorching her cheeks to melt her away forever.
A/n: This is probably the only depressing story I ever have and ever will right. I think I was just sad when I wrote it or something. Oh well, Virtual party for anyone who reviews!
