Authors note:
I hate to disappoint some of you newsie fans, but Jack Kelly is not the leader of the newsies in this story. Kid Blink will be the leader, Jack is going to pop up but he is not a newsie in this one. Instead he works with Oscar and Morris Delancey. Yes I know you hate the idea but everything else stays the same. There will be a few twists and turns along the way though.
Chapter 1
Crash and burn
Rayne and Seth screamed in the backseat of their parent's station wagon as the car bellowed faster and faster down the road. Their mother was driving deranged out of her mind her husband had just lost his job and committed suicide now she had nothing to do. To her the only option was to kill herself and her children. Rayne and her brother continued pleading with their mother to stop the car and let them out but she wasn't listening, she turned the music up louder and pressed down on the accelerator. Then things took a turn for the worse when she slammed into the bridge. The car went through the concrete wall and barreled towards the water below. Rayne closed her eyes and held her breath as the car crashed into the water. Rayne felt the water rush over her face as she passed out she knew this was the end and waited for death to overtake her.
"Hey Race! Racetrack Higgins!" A female voice screeched, "Wake up this instant and explain yourself!" Racetrack slowly rubbed his eyes and looked around to see what the girl was talking about. As soon as he rolled over he seen it. There was a girl on his bed but he had no clue as to who she was or how she got there. Race gently shook the girl awake, the minute she saw him a look of fear spread across her face and she started screaming. The screaming girl took off running down the row of bunk beds and ran into a teenager with an eye patch. The boy caught her and held onto her so she couldn't run any further. Before she could scream he put his hand over her mouth, and a finger up against his lips.
"You'se gonna scare da boids." The boy smiled at the girl, when she shook her head he continued on, "Da names Alex Hunt but deyse calls me Kid Blink. Whatcha doin here kid?" As he slowly released his hand from her mouth she glared daggers at him.
"First off never, and I mean never put your hand over my mouth like that! You will regret it if you do it again. Now my name is Rayne, Rayne Porter, and I have no idea what I am doing here. I was supposed to die with my brother and mom in a car crash." Rayne glared looking around the room noticing that several other boys had taken an interest in the conversation. "And why don't you guys all mind your own business, you idiots!"
Rayne walked away with her chin up smirking at the thought of all those boys staring at her shocked, she almost made it out the door, and away from them before she was stopped by a blonde girl.
"An jes who do youse tink ya are, sleepin in da same bed as me man?" the girl glared at her. Rayne just glared back then smirked.
"You keep on running your mouth and I will give you more to cry about!" Rayne stated holding her smirk, walking up to Racetrack and kissing him hard. Before anyone could utter a single word she turned on her heel and walked out the door.
