"Your new hair is very becoming, Jo," Laurie commented as he and his companion lounged on the garret sofa.
"Boyishly becoming," Jo corrected with a grin as she shook out her cropped hair. "It's so deliciously light and cool," she continued. "It's wonderful."
"It is wonderful – to ruffle!" And in keeping with his words, Laurie reached forward and ruffled her hair, as if she were a dog, while Jo attempted to squirm away.
"Ah, Teddy, stop! You're messing it up," she said as wayward strands of hair entered her field of vision.
"I thought you didn't care about appearances," Laurie quipped back with a smirk.
Jo ignored his remark and closed her eyes, smiling as Laurie's fingers briefly scratched her scalp. "Mmm, actually that feels really good."
His hand was tangled in the short, soft tendrils of her hair. He mumbled something incomprehensible and gazed down at her involuntarily upturned face.
Author's Note: I'm a little bit worried about the subtext here. So if you find something weird, chances are I did not realize it at all and did not mean for it to happen. Really.
