Main character(s): Neji.
Prompt: "When do friends become strangers and strangers become friends? Where is the line that divides the two?"
To Neji, fate was the main principle. Fate was the thing that strung all the events and happenings together at the end of the day, and created a domino effect. Fate made no strangers strange, friends family, and made anything much more meaningful. Fate was what decided if a friend becomes a lover, and if a stranger is to be let into your life.
Though Neji greatly believed in faith, he didn't sit around and let it control him. He was ashamed of that. He was ashamed for not letting what was supposed to be, be. He was ashamed to not blend into the atmosphere around him. He was ashamed to be human. He was jealous and angry. He was human. It disgusted him.
Then Neji saw him. He was sitting on a bench, watching time pass him and colors blend together in the horizon, a horrifying blood red sooth into a neutral purple. Neji watched him as he watched the clouds with anticipation as they disappeared. He sighed. Neji watched. He then stood up. He blended into the shadows as he walked. He sun seemed to be in perfect synch with his movements.
He controlled the clouds, and the sun and shadows followed him, as if taking instructions from him. He controlled time. He watched it slip through his fingers. He was beautiful.
Fate was the one thing that controlled Hyuuga Neji's soul, body, and mind. The one who controlled fate may have his heart. As Neji watched Shikamaru gracefully move in synch with the world around him, the thin line between lover and stranger was crossed.
