Thanking the Accompanist
Eduard grinned, having stayed behind in the practice room after the concert. It had gone really well, and Romano had pulled off the solo perfectly, along with many other unexpected occurrences. The audience had loved it, and it had resulted in quite a few donations for the choir program, which it needed. As he was walking back, however, he recognized a few strains of the accompaniment to one of the softer, sweeter songs they had done, Erev Shel Shoshanim, a Hebrew song. Curious, he walked to the stage, which he had thought to be abandoned. There sat the student volunteer who played the piano at every concert the choirs had, Roderich Edelstein. To tell the truth, the pianist was attractive, and the way he was concentrating on his playing was breathtaking to Eduard. Eduard slowly walked onto the stage, singing his part along with the piano.
Roderich did not expect this, not at all. He was just playing one of his favorite accompaniments to a song, and suddenly, some guy walks in and starts singing? He was about to stop playing, but then he found that he liked the sound of whoever's voice this was. He played to the end, turned around, and opened his eyes. It was the bass, Eduard Von Bock. He got a lot of the solos and was popular amongst his peers. Roderich was coming to terms with the fact that he found Eduard's outgoing personality attractive, and now, his voice as well. However, he wasn't going to be the one that spoke first.
"Thanks, Roderich." Eduard said. Roderich started. Not many gave him thanks for all of the practice and time that he invested in the choir program, and he was genuinely blown away by the statement.
"Uh, you're welcome, I guess." Roderich paused, thinking of something else to fill the empty space. "Not many people thank the accompanist."
"Oh, well, you spend so much time, and your technique is stunning…"
"I really like that." On impulse, Roderich got up and filled the empty space between him and Eduard, kissing him softly and then pulling away. "Sorry, I don't know what came over, me. Well, I do, I've had a crush on you for a while, but I didn't want to say-"
"I guess it's mutual, then." Eduard said, interrupting Roderich's blathering. The two paused for a while, staring each other down.
"So we're an item now?" Roderich asked.
"As long as you don't run off with a tenor or something like that."
With that, both Roderich and Eduard shut off the lights, and walked away, holding hands and reveling in each other's presence.
