Bow Ties and Teddy Bears
"Here."
I pick up a long gift, beautifully wrapped with a cheap but elegant stick-on ribbon. I smile in excitement as the gift passes from my hands to his.
His hands move gracefully, tracing the paper before slowly unwrapping it with great pleasure.
I bashfully bow my head.
"I know it isn't much, but I just thought…"
I look up to see him take the lid of the box and a smile spread across his lips. He looks up at me and no more words are needed to finish the sentence.
"Kurt, this must have cost you a fortune! It's beautiful."
He leans over and kisses me. He genuinely loves it. I don't doubt for a moment that I made the wrong choice.
He gently picks up his new gift and swiftly wraps it around his neck. I glide over to help him tie it before standing back, admiring how handsome he looks.
Blaine stands up beside me before taking my hand and twirling me around, so we're now both looking head-on at the mirror. He straightens his new bow tie and squeezes my hand.
He passes me his gift. It isn't as neatly wrapped and the shape is uneven. There must be a whole roll of tape on it but none of it matters. He'd thought of me, and that was all.
As I struggle with the tape and finally rip off the paper, my heart melts.
Inside isn't the designer box or bottles of skin care products I was hoping for. Instead there was something completely different. Something more:
A single teddy bear sitting up and staring at me, wearing a t-shirt printed with a picture we'd taken at one of those photo booths when we where still in high school.
It wasn't just the t-shirt that made me start to tear up. On the arm of the teddy bear was something more precious than anything to me.
A ring.
