A day of the dead

"Shinta!" Koaru sobbed. Koaru lays by a corpse under a sakura tree. She stumbled half way to the harbor to see if Shinta was back. When she came upon a forest of sakura trees, a figure came slowely towards her. Her heart exploded with happiness, it was Shinta! He smiled the truest smile he ever smiled. Then they sat by one of the sakura trees. "Shinta... You'rereally back. Oh how long I have waited." Koaru said cheerfully. "Hai Koaru-dono. This one has traveled far just to see you again.."Shinta whispered with his head in Koaru's lap. "I bet. You look exhausted." Koaru said while stroking her love's hair. "Lets have a sakura party out over here. We'll invite everyone! Yahiko, Tae, Tsubame, Misao... Right Shinta?" No answer. "Shinta?" Koaru swept away Shinta's hair out of his face to reveal an unscarred face.

"Now... You're free." she whispered. Koaru leaned over his corpse and started to sobb. Then Kenji and Yahiko came running. "There you-" Yahiko started to say before his eyes met with his deceased role model, Kenshin. "Kenshin!" he screamed. "Father..." Kenji murmured. S-Shinta came back to me!" Koaru said tearfully. "Father came back..." "He's free from his pain now." she said before losing consciousness.

Yahiko caught her and hoisted his teacher/mother into a comfortable position. "Kenji, take Kenshin." Yahiko said sadly as he started to walk past the rows of houses towards the dojo. Kenji did the same. "Father... You kept your promise to mother until the end. You came back, even though you knew you were dying." He looked upon his deceased father's gentle and kind face and did the unthinkable. Kenji carefullylifted one of his father's eyelids. He gasped.

"What's wrong Kenji?" Yahiko asked. "F-Father's eyes, they're amber!" Yahiko spun around to take a look. It was true, Kenshin's eyes were amber. "How can this be! Kenshin's eyes are amber! He can't be angry, his body doesn't have any ki." "How?" Kenji asked. "Did Koaru tell you about when Kenshin's Battousai form took place?" asked Yahiko. Kenji shook his head.

"When a serial murderer called Jin-e captured Koaru, Kenshin was enraged. Kenshin and Jin-e fought a deathmatch. During the battle, he misread one of Jin-e's moves and got his shoulder sliced open. Jin-e thought Kenshin wasn't near Battousai, and paralized Koaru's lungs. Then Kenshin was even more enraged. Then right before the final blow, Kenshin's eyes turned bright amber. It happened when he lost control and took Battousai form with Kanryu, Saitou, and Cho." Yahiko fell silent and Kenji stood there, shocked.
