Hello, readers. This is my first Castle fanfiction. Please R&R.
Follow me,
To a place only we know.
Through the dense green,
Where we first met,
Where we shared our first kiss.
I walked under low hanging branches on the familiar pathway. I thought about how we first met. I was a writer and you were a detective. You weren't fond of me at first, but I was always fond of you. I followed you to every case and slowly fell in love with you. And eventually, you fell in love with me also. I brought you to a special place, that we spent every night at. We even had our first kiss there.
Follow me,
To a place only we know.
Past thick shrubs,
Over trickling brooks.
Where we laughed until it hurt,
Where you still hear our shushed whispers.
When I heard the rumble of thunder, I picked up the pace. I pushed my way through bushes, and waded through the once clear stream. Sigh. We used to lie back on the grass and tell stories to each other. We'd laugh until we cried, and we would usually fall asleep in each other's arms. Now when I visit I can still hear us laughing and whispering even though those times have long been over.
Follow me,
To a place only we know.
To the clearing,
Under the blossom tree.
Where we made promises
That we kept throughout eternity.
I reached the open space that was hidden behind the trees, just as it started to rain. My hair was sopping wet by the time I reached the tree. My tears mixed with the rain as they fell. I took my spot next to you, and looked down. I miss you, Kate.
I look down at the marker
And know you still remember me.
The marble stone glistened eerily as the rain fell harder. Under this tree, exactly one year ago, I proposed to the lovely Kate. She said yes. I thought we would have long life together. I was wrong. We promised to never leave each other, but she broke the promise. A few months ago she was shot down at our captain's funeral. As she lay in the grass bleeding out, I grabbed her hand and told her I loved her over and over, she couldn't speak, but she smiled. I kissed her one last time, and tasted blood. I knew it was the end. I had her buried at her favorite place. Our secret place. The place only we knew.
Follow me,
To a place only we know.
Hidden in the dense forest.
A place just for us.
I know she would want me to be happy. To move on with my life, but I can't. Not without her. So, Kate, I'm sorry to say this is the last night I will be visiting. The rain was pouring harder and harder now. I need to have you in my arms, Kate. So, this is goodbye and hello. I pulled a knife out of the pocket of my coat. I lay down by the headstone of my beloved. Goodbye, Kate. I will see you soon. I plunged the knife into my stomach. A small smile appeared on my face. I closed my eyes and released my last breath. The blood now pooling out was washed away by the heavy storm. He was found a few days later, lying side by side with the marble stone. And for the first time since the shooting there was a smile on the writer's face. Even though this is a tragedy, everyone knows he is finally happy. He was buried next to Kate one week later, by the entire department. As Lanie turned to leave she saw Castle and Kate sitting under the tree in each other's arms. They waved at her then disappeared forever. As Lanie walked to her car, she too had a slight smile on her face.
A little slice of time
For us to finally
Rest together in peace.
