This was supposed to be a short little 100 word one-shot for the DMHG monthly challenge, but it turned into a little more than 100 words. Oops. The theme for the challenge is Fireflies.
And they're just fireflies to the untrained eye, but I could always tell….

He was glowing. Around him swarms of fireflies flew so close to his body it seemed it was him radiating light. Until that moment the "fallen angel" comparison wasn't applicable due to this devious personality, but this, this overshadowed that reservation.
His features had a glow similar to sitting by a fire. The halo of light made his skin look as if it was made of a pale silk. The fireflies outlined his silhouette, emphasizing his perfect figure. It was like she had never seen his beauty until that moment.
She let him walk to her, and he was approaching slowly enough that she could fully enjoy the view. How he had gotten those little bugs to come to him was unfathomable, unless he hadn't sought their attention….
A smirk crept onto his face when they were only a few feet apart, whether he was proud of his accomplishment with nature or how she was reacting to him, she wasn't sure. Despite their close proximity, she still couldn't see the bodies of the bugs that were the source of light. As she squinted to make them out, another feature became clear. Each fireflies' blub ended with a distinct orange tip. With this realization the magic of the moment was shattered, and she was positive that these little bugs had found him.
Wasting no time with a warning, she whipped her want out and preformed a tricky spell she had found in a book Hagrid had given her for her recent birthday, Magical Creatures for the Untrained Eye by Granalda Pepperidge. The seemingly innocuous insects that covered Draco now could be found on page 345.
Photuris occaecares, the dangerous magical cousin to the Photuris lucicrescenus- common firefly. Those who know to be wary of it call it the Flashfly, named so because its body grows to shine completely orange just before it emits a blinding bright flash before extinguishing. It takes just one bug to blind a child, two or three for an adult. Malfoy was covered with multiple hundreds.
With the wave of her wand Hermione shot a jet of sliver light, not at Malfoy, who wasn't smirking anymore, but over his shoulder at a small tree maybe thirty feet away. The young oak shivered from the impact then embraced the spell and began to shine a brilliant silver. The orange tipped ends of the bug swiveled to the rival source of light. As if they were connected by one body, every flashfly left Draco's body and flew to the tree.
"Saved your life." She said and steered them away from the dangerous bugs.
"What the fuck was that?" He looked over his shoulder just in time to see the army of faux-fireflies bring down a shining branch of the tree.
"Flashflies, they look like fireflies but would have blinded the both of us if we had hung around any longer. They're distinguishable by their orange tips. They despise any sort of light that challenges theirs. Lunalumeninis will normally distract them long enough to get away. I have a book that describes them if you want to borrow it sometime."
"Hmm, dangerous or not, I still looked wicked cool, didn't I?"
"Yeah, it actually made you interesting to look at for once."
Hope you enjoyed. Reviews are much appreciated.
