The Last Laugh

Epilogue

Barb's Call

It was pure coincidence that Raven was awake that morning, unable to sleep she'd been puzzling over the changes the Titan's had gone through recently. The biggest of which being the change in command from Robin to Nightwing; it hadn't really been a change in command, after all, it was still their Robin, he'd just grown out of the "Boy Wonder" stage in his life and had made himself a new costume. He'd mentioned the occasional confusion when he went back to Gotham, about there being two Robins. What ever the reason was for her to be awake, it would be remembered as good luck that she'd stumbled into the kitchen that morning, in search of food that wasn't made with Beast Boy's tofu. The moment she walked through the door, she knew something was wrong, it was five thirty in the morning on a Saturday and the little "incoming call" sign was flashing at the bottom of the large TV screen in their living room. Raven opened the channel just in time to see a red haired, teary eyed girl trying desperately to get her mask to stick to her wet face.

"Oh, uh, hi Raven," she said in a croaky voice that she confirmed belonged to Commissioner Gordon's daughter, Barbra, AKA Batgirl, "Look, I know it's early, but this is important. Could I please speak to Nightwing? I think that's what he's calling himself now."

Raven nodded and left to fetch her friend. She'd been in Nightwing's room while he was sleeping before, to borrow some of his things, but she'd never have guessed that their fearless leader react in such a panicked way when she attempted to wake him. He let out a yell when she touched him and began flailing his arms and let in every direction, struggling against her firm hold on him, finally she let go of him and stepped back, watching as he toppled out of bed. His unruly black hair, which was getting rather shaggy, was a mess and his mask was slightly crooked as he blinked up at her and the other titans who'd gathered around, woken up by the noise. Sheepishly he straightened his pajamas and mask while trying to fix his hair, "What's up?"

"Batgirl's on the line for you." He was out of the room before she'd even finished the sentence and they had to run to catch up with him.

"Barb?" He asked, rushing into the room.

It seemed to take great effort for the girl to lift her head from her hands, as if she hadn't slept in days, "Dickie," She sobbed, "We need you to come home… Tim's missing."
