Maka found him out around the back of the school, as per their usual meet-up spot; his eyes were shut and his head fell back against the concrete - asleep. She wondered how long he had been waiting for her, so she nudges him with her foot and gently whispers his name. Upon receiving no response, she pushed harder and nearly knocked him over.
He stirred abruptly and snorted, rubbing his sleepy red eyes before glancing over at the pale-haired student as she slid down beside him. She didn't say a word to Soul and just stared out at the sun as it begun to lay it's metaphorical head to rest for the evening.
Soul wanted to tell her how stupid it was to keep meeting him out here like this, but he couldn't find the words to express to her. They tried this feeling-telling stuff, but it just ended absolutely horrid for the both of them. They spoke their love too quickly and it ruined them.
Subtle and slow, Maka sighed and inched her fingers towards his. She tapped his hand a little with her pinky and a small laugh sighed passed his lips, responding to her gesture by intertwining their fingers.
She wanted to kiss him, now; she felt a twitch in her mouth that told her to do so but, she couldn't find that courage to do it. Her gaze dropped to their fingers, then lifted to gaze at his cool profile; ruby eyes half-lidded and sleepy - focused on the sunset. When he caught her staring, his toothy grin reveled itself.
"What?"
"Uhh...nothin'."
Maka blushed pink and bit her bottom lip.
Soul laughed again and muttered an incoherent phrase under his breath as his hand slid into her hair, cupping her tinged cheek and leaned in closer. Delivering a sweet kiss to her lips, they felt that familiar flame curl and writhe in their bellies. When he parted, his eyes were still hooded but were not full of sleep.
He cocked a grin, again.
"Lying to me isn't cool, Maka."
She sighed at the pleasant euphoria and held his hand to her cheek, shutting her eyes to soak in his familiar warmth. Soul pressed his mouth against hers again and again; each time he kissed her, the harder it was to abandon the thought of them never being together like a regular couple again. They weren't good at being one - but they were good at this.
When his tongue found entrance into her mouth, she knew how horrible this would turn out.
