Lifeless Gray Eyes

By: ChoCedric

A scream tears from her throat, a scream so painful and raw and loud and earth-shattering that for a moment, she doesn't realize it is her who makes the noise. All around her, people are yelling "Dead! Dead! Dead! Cedric Diggory's dead! Diggory's dead! Dead! Dead!" And all the while, she can see her love lying on the ground, his face wearing an expression of such loneliness and vulnerability that it shatters her already bleeding heart, and his lifeless gray eyes are staring, staring, staring at the night sky.

She violently pushes people out of her way as she rushes, rushes, rushes to his side. She hears the screams of her friends trying to tell her to come back, but all she can think right now is that the love of her life cannot be dead, it's impossible, he cannot be lying there on the ground, his beautiful body being ogled at, his handsome face so lost and empty. She doesn't even realize that tears are streaming down her face as she continues to run over to where her heart is lying.

When she finally gets there, she bends down and touches her boyfriend's hand. Ice envelops her heart then, for it's so lifeless, limp, and cold. She squeezes it in hers, trying to get some life back into it, as though she can replace her own essence with his. "CEDRIC, WAKE UP!" she screams at the top of her lungs. "WAKE UP CEDRIC! WAKE UP, THIS ISN'T FUNNY!" She grabs her wand and points it at him in complete desperation. "ENERVATE! ENERVATE! ENERVATE!" she shrieks, but Cedric still lies there, totally unmoving, his lifeless gray eyes still staring, staring, staring emptily up into the sky. She shakes his body violently, trying to get some reaction out of him, but still he is silent, like a marble statue.

The next thing she knows, she is being held by Professor Sprout, and she screams hysterically for her to let her go. She needs to be touching Cedric, she needs to feel the warmth, the life in him again. Those sparkling gray eyes which looked at her with life and love and laughter are now devoid of any expression, and it causes her more agony than anything she has ever felt in her entire life. She's just lost her soulmate, her complete reason for living, the thing she cherished more than anything in the world; he's been ripped violently away from her.

She kicks and struggles as Roger Davies carries her away from the crowds and back into the school, away from her boyfriend's dead body. She doesn't know how she gets through the next few hours, all she remembers is a blur of tears and uncontrollable sobbing. Her love, her life, her world, has just been torn from her, and she knew it was done intensionally. The look in his gray eyes, that lifeless stare, made her sure that it wasn't a tragic accident that took his precious life.

And for the rest of her own life, she will never get the image of her love lying dead out of her mind. It will forever burn behind her eyelids, and she'll never forget how cold and limp he was. Her Cedric, her heart, her soul, her joy, her happiness, her love, her romance, is forever lost, and all she sees now, in every corner, in every nook and cranny, in every empty space, are his blank, lifeless gray eyes.
