Redkit leaped on to her brother's back, gently clawing at his ginger pelt. Firekit rolled over, pushing his littermate into the dirt. Redkit scratched his pale belly fur, desperately trying to escape his grasp. Seeing that it was no use, she went limp. While he was gloating over his victory, she jumped up and rammed herself into him, knocking him away from her. Firekit scrambled to his feet and ran towards the nursery. Redkit ran after him, jumping into the den and knocking Firekit over. Runningmoon yowled in shock - they had landed right next to her newborn kits. Reedtail, Firekit and Redkits mother, scolded them. "Redkit! You ruined all the fun!" Firekit hissed at Redkit. "How was I supposed to know you were standing right next to them!" She hissed back. Redkit nestled down on the moss, as far away from Firekit as she could, still fuming. Through the brambles, she gazed at silverpelt as she fell asleep.
Redkit stretched. It was still dark when she awoke, but there were no cats in the nursery. She silently padded outside, where she saw a cat. She had never seen her before, and the stars in her pelt intrigued Redkit. The strange cat spoke before Redkit could ask where everyone was. "Hush, kit. I can smell your fear. You have no need to be frightened. I am from Starclan, and I have to tell you something. There will be a cat of your kin, whose fire will save the clan." Redkit awoke, and was very confused. A cat of her kin, whose fire will save the clan. As she saw Firekit leave the den, she brushed the thought away and went to play with him.
"No, Redkit, go away. You ruined everything yesterday and you're not doing it again today!" His harsh words stung her, and she watched him run off, still shocked. Making sure no one was looking, she dashed out of camp in to the forest. She heard a rustle in the leaves - a mouse! She got in to a wobbly hunting crouch and stalked the mouse. She leaped, and with one quick bite it was dead. She proudly carried it back to camp, where warriors were frantically searching for her. Firekit sat miserably by the nursery, but his eyes lit up when he saw Redkit. "Shes back, and she has a mouse!" Reedtail dashed over, licking her kit while her father, Redstar looked thoughtfully at her. He came over. "Good catch. You'll make a fine Hunter one day. However, it is against the warrior code for kits to hunt. Take your catch the the elders. Don't get in any more trouble."
